You will need to use the DOHC computer and engine wiring harness with the DOHC engine. The Auto ecu will run it fine, but it will throw some codes. However, as in my 89, there is no service engine soon light.
The engine will bolt to the transmission, but you will need to remove the pressure plate, clutch, crankshaft bolts, flywheel, spacer ring, and a peice right in the end of the crankshaft from the SOHC to reuse on the DOHC. On the DOHC remove the torque converter, crankshaft bolts, flex plate, spacer ring, and the cap from the center of the crankshaft, then install all the peices from the SOHC. A clutch alignment tool will help out. Since you will have it this far apart, go ahead and replace the rear main oil seal on the engine and inspect the clutch for replacement and flywheel for resurfacing before bolting things back on. The SOHC has the power steering on its own pulley and belt, but the DOHC moves the water pump from the alternator belt and moves it onto the power steering pump belt. I went ahead and installed DOHC power steering lines, pump, and reservoir.
Here is the guide I followed for my swap.
