Is it possible to make an 89 s13 with a SOHC a DOHC without an engine swap? Like just replacing the parts with DOHC parts... anyone know?

I found an 89 that has a blown head gasket and I am thinking of buying it cause they only want $450 for the car and besides 2 240sx's are better than one :pface .

I search but could find nothing posted and if I missed something could you point me in the direction I need to go!

No, the heads are different. You would have to swap the whole engine, wiring harness, ECU, power steering lines, possibly the AC. The engine blocks themselves have the same dimensions, but i understand the DOHC has different water jackets. The heads will not interchange.

I have heard you can swap in the engine without changine the harness, but no one really confirms anything about this swap. Its just like asking about the wiring in a CA you get the same response its like the SR but with some changes. Well then its not like the SR is it then? I would like to know exactly what has to be done to swap from SOHC to DOHC?? Can someone answer the question?!?!?!?!

All i can say is that IF there is anything that needs to be cut and rewired to make the DOHC work on the SOHC ECU, it would be a LOT LOT easier to just get the DOHC ECU and wiring harness. I know for a FACT that the SOHC tachometer uses a 12V signal, while the DOHC tach uses a 16V signal. That is a big enough difference for me to just add the ECU and wiring harness to the swap. As for performance, why not build the SOHC?
