sohc to dohc onversion

So here's the deal the 240 i bought had a bent valve years ago and it had been replaced before i bought it. well bout 3 days ago my oil pressure light came on and i got some smoke through my center console. the next day i snapped a tie rod end(i know y it broke, bad pot hole) and the car sat for 2 days. well after i put new tie rod ends on it i drove it for 30sec and i started hearing a loud ticking so i thought i bent a dust cover against a caliper, anyways i was going up a hill(normally 55 in 5th) and i had to down shift to 3rd to barely hold 45mph. 3 min later i stopped and the car stalled out. I taled with a friend at advanced auto n he said i might have bent a valve. my question to you guys is how can i check to see if my engine is just outta timing or if the valve is really bent.

if you just bent a valve..you might get lucky and be able to just replace the valve..allthou you might want to see if your valve seal/guide/seats are ok...then..you have to still figure out why ya bent the valve in the first place...good luck

Well my car starts but right now i have the valve cover off (need new gasket) and i'm waiting for my radiator to come in. but as soon as the gasket comes in i'm gonna try 10w 40 in the engine instead of 30 as one of my co workers said to try. If it still knocks then i'm gonna get a timing gun. btw where can i get one of them?
