Hi everyone. I'm looking to swap in a s14 ka24de into my 89 240. I was looking on zilvia.net and I saw their sohc/dohc writeup but I still have a couple questions...

Why do you have to use everything from a s13 dohc? Why can't I keep my Intake manifold the way it is and just use a s14 ecu and harness?

With all s14 parts ready to go I'd rather not have to go get a ton of s13 parts too.

With a s14 harness could i keep the distributor/coil/maf?

lastly.. what would I have to do to change a s14 harness to fit a s13?

Thanks in advance-Alex

ok..heres why you dont.

the S14 harness is 10000002% different than the S13 harness. its liek reaching over your shoulder to scratch your *** to make it work. the power is introduced differently, the gauge cluster interface is different, blah balh

why woudl you want to use S14 ecu? you cant rom tune it, and it will look for OBD2 items that your car doesnt have!

the manifolds are the same. use the S14 intake manifold. the ex manifold is different. if you use the S14 manifold you also have to use the S14 downpiep whihc has a cat in it... you want 2 cats?

the only real difference between S14 and S13 ka's is the exhaust manifold and the distirbutor. i always use the S14 distributor on my KA's.. theyre internal coil. no more ugly coil sitting on your wheel well. BUT the harness has to be converted. and its not for the faint of heart. the TPS sensor plug is different, too (on 96+), but that can be converted too.

if you want, i can do the harness for you to put your motor in that car for 150. i will need your SOHC harness and the S14 harness. i have a twin cam cut harness at my shop, so dont sweat needing one. but you will need an S13 DOHC intake pipe, MAFS with the S13 DOHC ecu and an S13 DOHC ex manifold. the car is OBD1.. keep it OBD1 its not cost effective to change it and it will only hurt you in the end.

Thanks for the reply.. So I'm going to need a s13 dohc ecu, s13 distributor (unless I want to tweak with the harness), exhaust manifold, amd s13 harness?

240drft ill try to tell you all i can, but i wont be able to tell you exact wires etc. because i didnt write any of it down, i just sat the two scematics, and ecu pinouts on top of the car and went at it one at a time, i spliced the 89's body harness with the 95 ecu and engine harness. i still havnt finished yet, (I havnt hooked the a/c up yet) but the car runs great, with no wiring issues...... atleast not with any of that stuff, the taillights, however, are a different story though. Any one with a little motive, and mechanical mind should be capable, as i am just an 18 year old self tought wrenchmonkey, it is not my first time tinkering with this sort of thing by any means though (swapped interior, and engine including wiring from a 90 f-150 to a 92 f-150, and the wiring was all changed in 91 so i had to do the same thing there) if you have more questions etc. please give me an emai at [email protected]

do you know the minimum number of wires u have to splice to just get it running? do u know any of those wires? where did u get the wiring diagrams at? thanks. if anyone else knows anything feel free to butt in.

Its just alot eaiser to use the s13 dohc suff. I just got done swapping a built 95 ka into my 90 hatch a few weeks ago. Plug and play > splicing.

You will agree when after a few weeks of not getting every wire exactly correct and havign to buy it then.

You have to splice on the dash harness connector on your old wiring harness to the one your going to use. It's all hidden to the right side of your glove box, I did a sohc to s13 dohc swap so I just had to match up the colors (dunno if you can). I know you need to hook up the ignition wire (obviously), and ground, you might not have to connect the rest to get it running but your going to have to anyway so just do it.

So review:

Take old harness, chop off the connector part that hooks up to the dash harness.Take harness being used, chop off the same part, throw out and wire on the older one.

Diagram:

Yellow/red --TachYellow/Green--speedoorange--ignition startblack---groundblue/black---water temp sensor.

BTW I have a collection of write-ups if you want them...

fergus- using s13 harness and stuff is out of the question cuz everything is already hooked up im just waiting fore wiring.

gogg- they changed the wiring colors on obd2 so those colors dont work for sohc to obd2 dohc. if u had any wiring diagrams or any wiring stuff that would help, thanks.
