Can somone tell me what I should have for stock timing on a 89? And secondly what should I adjust the timing to, so that it accelerates faster but doesn't make the car run/idle to ruff. After all I want to improve the engine not kill it.

ahh, it should be on the sticker under the hood... only advance it past spec when you know you'll be using premium gas...

there's no knock sensors to retard the timing when detonation starts kicking in our SOHC (y they leave it out???)

u can maybe check online repair manuals @ autozone.com? i'm lazy to do this 4 u.

yeah I found that but I also saw 20 so I wanted to be sure, a big difference between those 2 numbers.

Anyone with an idea of what to set it at for better performance, perhaps 18 BTDC?

I think 2-3 degrees is the generally accepted advancement. Be sure to use high octane, like rice said.

K, i looked under my hood & confirmed baseline timing is set to 15BTDC, maybe the 20 is for the DOHC???

I dunno about ^ idle speed as well (to about 900rpms?) or is this just a waste of gas...

So 20 isn't to high if I use 91 octane? and are you sure 20 is better than 18? Seems from 15 to 20 you would pass the point of efficency. But then agian I am not sure and that is why I asked the question.

Btw exactly how much did it improve you acceleration?
