If you have the time (this isn't your daily driver car) then 180 is right, you can do it yourself. It is a fairly annoying job, however.

Shops would probably say $600-$800 to do it for you.

Timing chain kit at NAPA..........$124Tube of orange RTV.................$4Doing the labor yourself..........Priceless

Start to finish, it should only take a few hours to change it. I had mine done in about 90 minutes but I'm relatively fast.

Good luck with it taking only a few hours, especially if you've never done it before. It really is an annoying job. With two different sets of directions it took me about a week (on and off) to finish the job. Granted, it was the first "real" job I'd done on my car but it's still no cakewalk.

Oh, and since the Nissan bulletin says the labor rate is 4 hours for the job, I call BS on the 90 minute thing. Hell, getting the cover off in 90 minutes would be fast.

^^^^I agree. When I did mine, it took me three full days doing it by myself with the guidance of a mechanic friend of mine. Changing the cam gear was a *****. That damned nut there did not want to come loose. Had to use a 4' cheater bar to get it to budge.

I suggest if you do it yourself, make sure you study your FSM, Chiltons Manual, or what ever you use. I made a mistake, was off by one tooth on the crank gear, and it ruined my engine. It ran pretty good for a while, but it pretty much ate itself to death. Also make sure you have someone with you that has done it to help you out.

Factory Service Manual + air tools = engine pwnage.

My first really job on my car was changing the engine after I threw a rod through the side. That tends to make you learn quickly when you need a car. To my credit, I did already have the engine out when I changed mine and a host of tools to make my life easier.
