I have already searched and I could not find any information of how to properly align the head and the crankshaft for the timing chain install.. I checked the online FSM PDF and I can't seem to find a guide on how to do it... the only thing I found on timing was under the PDF file "Engine_O" and it was very vague at best and most of the pictures did not even show the correct engine...

On my car Cyl One is at TDC and the the valves on the head on for #1 and #2 were closed when I put the head on (#3 and #4 were open exhaust and intake)

this is what the car looks like ATM

If someone could please tell me exactly how to do it step by step or send me the FSM page that tells you how to do it step by step it would really help! thanks.

"24L_FOUR.pdf" has a better description with a better picture. If your crank is at tdc, then in the picture it looks like your cam needs to be turned clockwise a bit so the keyway is pointing directly up. (with the long block as a reference, not the ground - you know... the engine doesn't sit level with the ground...) Once you put the chain on, you'll see that if you have it off a tooth, the keyway really does point obviously to one side or the other.

Keyways on both crank and cam should point up. Match the punchmarks on the sprockets to the colored links on the chain and reinstall everything. With the oil pump, the gear will slide into the pump and match the punchmarks again.

Yup both keyways should be pointing straight up, with the round dot on the cam sprocket at about 3 o'clock and the dot on the crank sprocket at about 5 o'clock.

Line up the marks on the oil pump and the shaft and reinstall; this can be a pain because sometimes the shaft rotates when you insert it, causing the timing to be off by about 8 or 9 degrees. Fortunately, it's not a very hard fix, even with everything reinstalled, just pull the distributor and oil pump, set engine to TDC, realign the marks on the pump and shaft and reinstall.
