Okkkk folks, I did search, to begin with.

1) For those who know, how different are the SOHC rods from the DOHC rods? Not talking about tolerances and clearences for trowing this rod in that block, just design and strength.

2) Who has actually had a stock rod fail out there? From boost, not from having your oil pump blow out or driving around with 2 quart in your pan or something?

It would a appear a rebuild is in the works for me, but I was just planning on cryo treating the stock rods.

for the price of cyro treating.. you would have to magnaflux them first to check for cracks.. and then if they have cracks, you are goign to have to get new rods anyways.. just get new ones. they arent that bad for the power they hold.

not only that, but the rods you get are grade 42xx steel, which is like.. freaking ultra strong.. alot stronger than cyro'd cast iron

There isn't a KA on the street right now that has bent a rod do to to much WHP. Perhaps and over rev or bearing failure, but thats it. Until you start revving beyond 7400 or so, not sure what the E model redline is, you'll be fine. Especially with you only running a small amount of boost. The pistons will unass long before the rods.
