#1 DO NOT BUY ANY PARTS UNTIL YOU HAVE THE BLOCK CHECKED. You will most likly need to have the cylinders bored out. This is normal. But you don't know what size parts untill this is done. Your machine shop can help. If you don't know of a good machine shop go to your local race track and ask the drivers who they use. one or two will quickly go to the top of the list.

you want to have the block cleaned and checked. Also the crankshaft. You should have the head gone through also. We did all of the above and purchased our rebuild kit through our machine shop and it came to about $900 a year ago.

Take your time and you will have an engine good for another 250,000 miles if you take care of it.

Your rebuild kit should include Pistons, Rings, Main and Rod Bearings, Oil pump, watter pump, Timing chain and gears, freeze plugs, ALL gaskets.

You will need to purchase new head bolts. do not re-use them.

Good time to change radiator hoses and motor mounts. Go ahead and get new spark plugs and wires along with a new cap and rotor.

Run standard oil for the first 2-3 oil changes before you go synthetic. This is so the rings will seat better.

Add a torque wrench or two and a ring compresser (10 bucks or less at auto zone) and you can have the rebuild done in a day or so once the machine shop is done.

Well worth the effort in my opinion
