My sohc has had an idle problems since I've gotten it. The idle is hit and miss. Sometimes its steady around 800 rpm's, but very rough. Other times it seems to be hunting, or extremely low. I have replaced the coolant temp sensor, o2 sensor, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, injectors, pigtails, fuel pump, fuel filter, ecu, and maf to no avail. When I plugged up the lines for the carbon canister it idled better for a while, but its back to how its been. Any ideas? I'm stuck.

check that little squishy thing at the throttle body for cracks and air leakage, as well as for any vac leaks along any of the lines.

also, check your compression, AIV (if you still have it) and EGR for proper opperation ie: opening and closing, no binding. also, check the vacuum line that goes to the egr, that little elbow is a common place for a leak

The AIV is gone, and the intake is new and does not have any cracks. I have looked over every vacuum line and replaced most of them, nothing has helped. I have not checked the egr, however my mechanic said the pcv and egr systems are functioning correctly.

Just a stab in the dark, did you try wigging your injector plugs? My guess is corroded connectors on the plugs and injectors themselves.

the plugs themselves are new, that's what I meant by new pigtails.

Timing? My car was running like that and a quick turn of the distributor fixed it.

im suprised at all the stuff you have replaced and it has done nothing. the IACV would be a good thing to check, and do the "pinch" test first so you can narow down if it is getting air at all or not first
