sohc idle drops to 500 when put in reverse.... wtf?

Ive been trying to get my idle right, i thought something may be messed up with the tps. Anyway i noticed my car would idle fine around 800rpm and as soon as i put it in reverse it would drop to about 500... barely running. why would it do this? it doesnt happen when i put it in first. s13, ka24e, 5 spd.
