Ok I've heard that the metal cover (black thing with a 90 degree bend) was removed from nissan's inventory because you don't need it. The top metal guide that's right in front of the cams right underneath the valve cover on the ka sohc and ka dohc. I know that's true for the sr and for the ka dohc. For the ka sohc, removal won't cause any problems right? I took mine out a while ago and now my car won't start but I think it's because of the tensioners or guide or some other ridiculous problem I can't trace down. But I'm rebuilding my sohc so i don't care but I do want to know if that piece was important for the ka sohc.

Hmmm - you had an 89 right? Maybe they added in the 90 sohc... bah I don't even know if mine is 89 or 90 cause it got swapped lol. So if yours didn't have one and it's running alright then no need for that then lol. (Lesson: the early 89 sohc was 9.1:1, the 90 was 8.6:1 so maybe other things were different too but I doubt it lol)

Single cam KA's only have the one main tensioner/guides.

I know that. I'm talking about the top piece that everyone removes because of the engine rattle from the sr, dohc etc. It's a black piece of metal with a tight bend it and the chain constantly scrapes it.

SOHC does not have those. The chain only rides along two guides. There is no upper guide to remove.
