I am going to soon be pulling my cam out to have it reground by colt cams and somebody told me that you arent supposed to unbolt the cam towers from the head without having it line-honed afterwards. Is this true? I know that there are engines like that but I cant believe that these engines would be like that because you cant pull the rockers without unbolting the cam towers. I am just trying to get an idea of what is involved before I start jerking out bolts. Thanks for any input guys.

No you dont have to do any line-honing. The only operation necessary with the cam towers, with a colt cams regrind, is milling down the tops. This is to lower the entire rocker assembly, and make up for the smaller base circle of the cam. I dont think this is necessary with the colt/pdm stage 1 cam tho. When i was running the c404h, i think it required .025" or so removed from the top of the towers. Exact specs on on pdm site, and also included when you get your cam. This has to be done by machine shop, very simple and cheap operation.

Maybe the person meant that you cannot mix up and reinstall your cam towers in the wrong location, im sure you know to keep them in order and not install them backwards. They are numbered and arrows are there to show you the front, its a nissan remember.

Thats cool then. This looks like the easiest cam swap I've ever seen then. But let me ask you, how did you like the 404 cam ? I'm hoping that it opens up the potential that you can feel these motors have in them.

Does any one knwo WHERE the .025" needs to be removed? Is it on the round side, or the flat side of the towers? Just how cheap is it? This milling is the only thign that is preventing me from getting the PDM stage 2 cam for my SOHC. Also I am afraid to lose low end (when you had it did you feel less low end?)

The .025 needs to be milled from the top of the towers(this would be the flat side) where the rocker shafts sit. Now, does anyone out there have the c404h cam installed in their vehicle? If so, do you like it?
