I am looking for people to try out my program for free...

Anyone interested please send me a Personal Message. I have got it far enough to connect to a OBD1 Nissan Vehicle but no futher. I simply want to see what the program says after it connects to the vehicle.

I have only gotten this far because the creator of OBD Scan Tech Nissan was kind enough to share the code to his newest program.

I am not completely experienced with C++, particularly dealing with hardware, but I can tell you it would be quite difficult. Usually with software like this you would have a comunity of programmers that would release SVN's of the program, which means they would gradually improve the program. Not to bring the idea down, its just time it would be a long process for an individual programmer. Thats just me, so I am sure that there are more experienced programmers will chime in.

I am looking for anyone and I don't care if its one person or a thousand. Although a thousand would have a program ready by tomorrow.

To me the most important part is the interface. I want this Consult to be the easiest to use while still doing what it needs to do for the professional. Tall task I know because its easier to make (Code) something like Microsoft DOS VS Windows 7.

But yes this would be a completely new thing but I will ask Peter at ECU talk if I can borrow some of his gauges. But this is not meant to compete with his program this is meant to go above anything else out there today especially for the 1994-1996 Q45 support. I have put my idea's on paper so I am not making any of this up and most of it is possible including a Dyno that reads Horse Power and Torque.

If it helps I haven't really used a computer for anything else other than games and internet since 2007 so I am not that current. But I don't care what language the program is written in as long as it works on windows XP to Windows 7, is easy to use (The actual program once compiled (Put together)) and remains free to make.

And I plan on supporting only 1990-1996 Infiniti Q45's. Unless the program has to be written differently for OBD2 support then I will only support OBD1.

Thoughts, Any feature you want to see in this, comments of any kind?

Im not sure what advantage all this work would have over whatever consult program is available now.. Eventually you're going to build a program more robust than the hardware on the car can support!

Well I have already downloaded Microsoft Visual Studio C++ 2010 so I can learn the language and build the program.

The current Consult programs available were built on the assumption that you were using it on a 300ZX or 240ZX (V6 or I4) respectively. With the exception of Isaacs OBD Scan Tech Nissan Program that was built to do a power balance on a Nissan V8. But his transmission support part of his program assumed you had a 300ZX or 240SX.

Their is currently no LAN or complete support for Active Suspension. I want to change that As Soon As Possible (ASAP) because its been long enough we have had to rely on over priced dealers and mechanics who don't know what they are doing.

The program I wanted to build on a piece of hardware rarely found in a mass production vehicle would have possibly been to much for the Q45 to handle. But most of what I want can be done very easily such as a dyno test. Sure the dyno test may not be extremely accurate but its good enough.

The Automatic Transmission support (A/T) will see one extra sensor people can make use of.

Its hard to do divulge all the details because I don't want to see my work in someone else's program and then see them charge money for my idea's.

just to give you a magn of order, it took me 6 months to build, test
a program 1/10th of what your looking at and that was me on it full time,
are you proposing to bastardise whats currently out there or start afresh???

R
Was the program Nissan oriented?

I want to start fresh and only support ONLY the Q45 just like the 300ZX guys did with their programs. Only one person really cared about us (Isaac) but now that he has given up the OBD Scan Tech Nissan Program I think.

I am currently leaning C++ (The language this program will be built on) unless anyone has a better suggestion. But if its only me at this then I will make it easier on my self and only support 1990-1993 Q45's at first. And I may charge a small amount because if its only me at this...

I am also looking for names to call my program that will not violate any Nissan Patents.

And the good think Peter at ECU Talk did was only show the supported sensors unlike others that showed every sensor.

Please don't let this idea die like all my others. I have said this too many times.

So am I going to be talking to myself in this topic as well or does anyone want to see my Pre-Alpha release?

Post here, Email or send me a Personal Message (PM) if interested.

I am in school for C++ programming and I can tell you this is a very large undertaking. You would be better off finding the source code from the nissan program and changing it to suit your needs. Even then you are talking about skimming hundereds of thousands of lines of code and hoping you dont break the whole program by changing something.

Anyway, goodluck. lol

Well I changed my mind about C++ a couple of pages into the C++ for dummies book. I am now using Microsoft Visual Basic 2010 Express. In fact I have the interface down and have many many plans for this program. And where this program will only truly support the G50 Q45 I can have a much more catered interface. Really its all easier when your only supporting one model series where most of the control units are shared from 1990-1996.

I may not support 1996 because that may prove to be difficult, at least the drive-train will be.

And I will only support 1990-1993 Q45 at first because I am the only person on this project working with the code but I must admit the owner of ECU Talk has helped me immensely and I am in his debt.

And like I said this will be built from the ground up (like the G50) so why copy a program made for a 300ZX.

And 1994-1996 Q45 owners stand to benefit more than 1990-1993 Q45 owners because of its Control Unit support. So anyone with a 1994-1996 that also knows how to write code in Microsoft Visual Basic 2010 Express is welcomed to join. If any 1997-2001 (FGY33) owners are interested and have the grey 14 pin connector on their cars I would be happy to lend my support if they choose to make a program for their cars.

Thanks Tbrack, I can use all the good luck I can get.

Well the interface is done and all features have that could be added (That I have thought of) have been implemented into the interface. So now begins the hard part which is making it work and thinking up the Icon for the program.

So like I said many hands make lighter work. So if one guy makes the Connect button work and another makes the registers work we will have a program faster. But I am learning quickly so it may take longer but it will get done.

Cost vs. Value, especially q45 only. In only 5 years no one will care about the Q, it's already a "dead" car. Don't want to rain on you Paul but you'd be better off spending your time on something else to help the Q community, as you have already done.

Hey your right clearly. But I figure for the few of use dedicated to owning a Q45 might as well save a trip to the incompetent dealer with no Senior Infiniti Technicians (Been at the dealer since 1989). Plus like I said this is tailored for a Q45 but as the people who I have shared the program have seen it has other features any OBD1 Nissan's can use.

Plus my father was telling me today that he never thought a Chevelle, Mustang...from the '60-'70's would be worth much. Now a shell in fair condition is worth $5K and a great shell (No drive-train) is worth $10K. So despite what everyone is saying I can say with confidence that Infiniti's first flagship/production Active Suspension will be worth some money. Hell the FGY33 (1997-2001 Q45) Will be worth money because of its timeless design. Have faith! But like I said your right for now but know one can tell the future, Although we can make the future!

Its easier to think of things you want to do to a car than to spend the money and fix it, drive it everyday, look at it knowing it needs...

Plus one more reason for me doing this is to get this Q45 section going again. But even the Yahoo Infiniti Owners Club (Original Q45 Section) or the Q45 section of Automotive Forums is dying.

And the cost of the program is free but if you like it please donate. I don't ask anything in return for my time because my program will help me among other Q45 owners.

Okay I have made my program in Visual Basic 2010 Express. I have a shell and some basic screens working but I would like some feedback on what I have.

Anyone want to help?

Curious as to why you didn't just improve on the observed scantech? If it had the a/t and ac diagnosis, it would have been comparable to consult. Less work involve. Anyhow if you need a tester, ill volunteer.

I don't want to base my program on anyone else's I want it to be my own. I am not egotistical, my program utilizes features not found in anyone else's program because everyone else makes a universal program based off the 240SX and 300ZX Control Units. Mine will only focus on the G50 (1990-1996) Infiniti Q45 but it may work on other vehicles.

The 300ZX does HVAC (A/C and Heat system) diagnostics through the Nissan Consult where as the G50 (1990-1996) Q45 does not.

The Automatic Transmission part of the program is set up using a 240SX or a 300ZX transmission.

And finally Issac (Creator of Scan Tech Nissan) doesn't want to freely release the source code which is understandable.

Sadly when I do release my program I can bet the features from it will be copied on to other programs where you have to pay to use them... :frown:

thats unfortunate, but those are the ills of open source. i hope you succeed. up until a couple days ago, i was all ready to spend 145 on the conzult sx. but jason at blazet told me neither software communicated with the transmission. if your system does everything i need and more, i would have no problem spending something for it.

What I don't get is why Scan Tech Nissan can't "Talk" to the Transmission Control Unit? Rusty Bucket was able to use the Automatic Transmission part of the of the program despite it not working 100% correctly.

But the thing with my program is that not many people are interested. And whats worse is that my program if done my way will do more than the Nissan Consult ever will. I know its hard to believe but given time I can prove it.

I am cutting out the cabin filters tomorrow and plan on selling them at $15 shipped which will cover my costs pretty much. Thats if anyone is still interested...

Well I am very suprised no one can think of any idea's that they want to see in a Laptop diagnotic program. A program that can commuinicate with the vehicle control units. Well I figure I might as well share what I have and see what happens: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/146957/Q45%20Diagnostic.exe

So if anyone wants to help me even with just bits and peieces COM Port communitcation, saving settings... what ever I would appreciate it. If not it will take a very long time and who knows if I would want to release such a program if only I help make it. I mean I am not even hearing any idea's other than Active Suspension support which is sort of already done.

And if anyone wants some compensation for their precious just name a price and I will see if I can fufill it.

I'm a software engineer...

I've thought about doing a tool like this a couple years ago to support all Nissan cars. the dealer charges $100+ just to read codes... but the market seems to be saturated with obd tools. (autozone will read codes for free) I guess i need to research what makes the Nissan consult different from a normal obd tool.

But with that said... sounds like a fun project, but i wouldn't focus on just the Q45 if I was to do something like this...

The Q45 is the flagship of Infiniti and as such it has some control units other car's of that generation from Nissan and Infiniti did'nt. And the 1990-1994.5 Q45's are OBD1 for the most part but I can't really confirm this. Ninteen nintey five is when Nissan started getting into OBD2 with the differn't connectors... But again anyone with a ECU Talk cable and a 1995+ Q45 please speak up.

And anyways I found the source code to a beta program that actually connects to the ECU so I will learn quickly. But before I did I was ready to give up because I may get a job that would make this program useless to me. But thats not in stone yet and I also happened to see what my program looks like on another computer I have, That sparked my interest once more. Before that though I was ready to give up my idea's to the public hoping someone would implement them into their program.

But everyone what I don't get is why no one want to contribute anything? But I no longer care...

Does anyone happen to have a Q45t and a Consult cable?

If anyone does could you do me a favor and run OBD Scan Tech Nissan (Any version with the ECU finder). Please report back to me with all available Control Units it found.
