Is there any reliable software or (chip) upgrade for the 3.5 liter engine?

If there is, JWT would make it. OBD II pretty much uses all the envelope for performance gains. If you are willing to give up some low end grunt in a heavy car, then there are the JWT camshafts.

The best performance upgrade for an M35 is to exchange it for an M45 or for even more gain the soon to be available M50.

UHHH - NO! UpRev has many tunes for the VQ35DE - Superchips Cortex, Bullydog, and lots of others. JWT does not perform ECU flash services. He does have the lockdown on the JWT Twin Turbo Kits for the M35, G35, 350z and FX35. Check em out.

does anyone have any experience with the flash ECU process? It is safe? Has anyone had any performance gains? Other negative impacts?

Guys,

You are talking way over my head. When I upgraded my little Z3 BMW I used a Dinan (chip). Is there anything like that for the 3.5 litter engine.

Thanks.

Nope, the chip you are referring to on the Z3 is not the same as what nissan/infinit uses. Nissan/infiniti uses a chip that can be reprogrammed over and over again so no need to swap out the chips. Most companies offer a handheld programmer to download new high performance programs into the ecu through the Diagnostic port eliminating the need to pull the chip out. UpRev will actually aend you a cable to plug into the diagnostic port and into your laptop, then email you the new tune and you simply upload the new program(or 5 different programs switchable on the fly) into the ecu. You can also get the Cipher cable and Datalog real time data, send them the file, and they will custom tune your ecu to your new parameters - like when you add an intake, or exhaust, you can get an program to best take advantage of your new modifications. Pretty cool stuff and not exorbantly(sp?) expensive for what it does.
