Hey Nistech, just wanted to let you know that I passed my emissions a while back with the advice of putting the stock exhaust on. Thanks for that one. But I've got another question for you.

My clutch pedal's way soft. When it's depressed, the slave engages and there's no air in the system as far as I know. The pedal rebounds and everything else is good. Only thing though is that I might expect that for a car with a damper loop but mine has that loop removed and I've also got a stainless steel clutch hose. Any suggestions on how to stiffen it up? Possibly my bleeding procedure was at fault or a bad master?

here's my bleeding procedure, let me know if I was doing something wrong.1. pump the pedal a dozen or so times and hold.2. while the pedal's holding, open the bleeder and close up the valve 3. repeat until the air is out of the system.

For problem #2, my buddy Art has an issue with his turn signal. When he pushes the stick for left or right and makes the turn, it doesn't rebound back to center. He's tried a new combination switch, but that didn't fix the problem either. Any ideas? He's also got an 89 240sx.

thanks again

Bleed your system at the master line, you may have air in the master cyl that wont push through, If that doesnt resolve it maybe your pressure plate is just getting weak. I have seen a soft pedal,or what feels like a soft pedal, after installing the nissan clutch kit on many different model nissans. I think its just something with the new design pressure plate.

on your buds car the ring on the coloum the kicks the return on the combo switch may be broke or missing all together. Does he still have the original steering wheel on the car?

How would I go about bleeding at the master line? The clutch I've got now is the stock clutch that was on my SR. If it helps any, it's a 96 SR with about 30k on it.

He's got a silvia steering wheel and possibly doesn't have the ring. I'll have him check out that one.

thanks again.

you have someone in there pumpin the pedal like you did when you blead it at the slave except now you crack the line that comes out of the master. you loosen it just like its the bleeder valve and retigthen it for every bleed. The air and fluid escapes around the line through the flare nut.

whoa you mean open the actual hydraulic line that comes off the master for just a blip while someone's pushing the pedal eh? Alrighty I'll give that a try when my buddies get off work.

thanks again man.

yeah...sorry to bug you with yet another problem. I just started my SR today and found an irratic idle. More specifically, it's idle bobs between 1500 to 300 rpm. It never dies, but the idle bobs between that range. Any ideas as to what's wrong? Everything else seems good, the wiring, the timing, etc but has that irratic idle. Any ideas?

if it bounces rather quickly I would say you have a fair sized vaccum leak,i.e. brake booster, pcv, ect.

i gotta soft clutch pedal,i just replaced the line to the slave cylinder and the softness hasnt gone away so i went and got me a new slave cylinder,i have a new clutch pressure plate the whole kit, would my softness be due to air in the lines or a faulty slave cylinder, ive had the lines bleed about twice now.

What is the clutch damper for? I can't think of any benefit. Is it worth removing for the sake of clutch 'feel'?

the damper is to make the pedal softer. It's a pos, take it off if you can. It'll help you when you're bleeding your clutch too. It's not just for pedal feel, it's for peace of mind knowing you got all the air out of your system (hopefully) without as much time consumed as the system with the damper loop.

Does the removal of the damper make the pedal throw shorter, meaning it won't need to be pushed as far to release the clutch?

If so, does the clutch pedal stop need to be moved up (or can the clutch pedal itself be moved down?)

No it doesn't do anything like that. Just makes the pedal feel better and makes it easier to bleed.
