I found your forum after searching for information on fixing my wife's 98 Altima 2.4. I'm not really a carhead; simply a guy with a bunch of tools and only a little money, so I try to fix and maintain our cars myself.

Today, while struggling to remove an especially stubborn oil filter, I managed to break off the retaining clips on the Altima's oil pressure switch. No big deal...$6.99 for an aftermarket switch at the local Auto Zone. Except the removal of the factory switch is giving me fits...or non-fits, so to speak.

I tried a 22mm socket to remove the old switch. I appeared a wee bit small, so I ran to the store and bought a 23 and 24 mm just to be sure. Oddly both the 23 and 24 also are a smidge small. It seems as if all three sizes were just 1 millimeter off...just plain weird. I can't get a visual as I'm on a dolly under the car and the switch is mostly blocked by the CV shaft. I'm at a loss.

Can anyone give me insight as to what size socket is required to remove the factory oil pressure switch? Is it even a socket at all?

Thanks in advance for your help. No snickering, please. Aw, heck, if you give me the right answer you can snicker all you want.
