Subject: Social Security

Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are now receiving a Social Security check every month -- and then finding that we are getting taxed on 85% of the money we paid to the federal government to "put away," you may be interested in the following:

Q: Which party took Social Security from an independent fund and put it in the general fund so that Congress could spend it? A: It was Lyndon Johnson and the Democratic-controlled House and Senate.

Q: Which party put a tax on Social Security? A: The Democratic party.

Q: Which party increased the tax on Social Security? A: The Democratic Party with Al Gore casting the deciding vote.

Q: Whic h party decided to give money to immigrants? A: That's right, immigrants moved into this country and at 65 got SSI Social Security. The Democratic Party gave that to them although they never paid a dime into it.

Then, after doing all this, the Democrats turn around and tell you the Republicans want to take your Social Security.

And the worst part about it is, people believe it!

Pass it on please!

2004 Election Issue

SOCIAL SECURITY: (This is worth the read. It's short and to the point.)

Perhaps we are asking the wrong questions during election years. Our Senators and Congress men &women do not pay into Social Security and, of course, they do not collect from it.

You see, Social Security benefits were not suitable for persons of their rare elevation in society. They felt they should have a special plan for themselves. So, many years ago they voted in their own benefit plan.

In more recent years, no congressperson has felt the need to change it. After all, it is a great plan..

For all practical purposes their plan works like this: When they retire, they continue to draw the same pay until they die, except it may increase from time to time for cost of living adjustments.

For example, former Senator Byrd and Congressman White and their wives may expect to draw $7,800,000.00 (that's Seven Million, Eight-Hundred Thousand Dollars), with their wives drawing $275,000.00 during the last years of their lives. This is calculated on an average life span for each.

Their cost for this excellent plan! is $00.00. Nada. Zilch. This little perk they voted for themselves is free to them. You and I pick up the tab for this plan. The funds for this fine retirement plan come directly from the General Funds - our tax dollars at work!

From our own Social Security Plan, which you and I pay (or have paid) into-every payday until we retire (which amount is matched by our employer) --we can expect to get an average $1,000 per month after retirement. Or, in other words, we would have to collect our average of $1,000. monthly benefits for 68 years and one (1) month to equal Senator Bill Bradley's benefits!

Social Security could be very good if only one small change were made.

That change would be to jerk the Golden Fleece Retirement Plan from under the Senators and Congressmen. Put them into the Social Security plan with the rest of us ... then sit back and watch how fast they would fix it !

If enough people receive this, maybe a seed of awareness will be planted and maybe good changes will evolve.

How many people can YOU send this to?

got it in the mail, wonder how long it will last?

I hate paying taxes but some people really do need it. I've also seen alot of wasted goverment money, I mean tax payers money. Its like accross the street from my house is a county fill up building and cops pull up filling their family cars up. That pisses me off. Nick

Assumption: I'll live to see 65 and I'll still be in the USA.

Social Security will not exsist by the time I reach 65, so I already said to hell with it. I cannot trust the government, neither can I rely on them to take care of me when I'm old. It's all about investing aggressively while I'm still young, then let the money do all the work when I'm old.

Exactly. by the time we're all old enough to get S.S., it'll be either spent or used for something else. I dont mind helping my folks out when im making good money after college, and even my extended family for that matter, but im not going to support all these people who didnt do anything for the majority of their life and then expect to get money out of me. CDs and Trust funds, better start early so i have money to spend when i get old and wrinkly.

The thing is, this showed us how unprepared we were for something like this. We have a bunch of snot nosed kids who saw all the glitz and glamour of the Army, Navy, Airforce, and Marines commercials, decided they would join to make their mommy and daddy proud cause basically they were nobodies and they were going to end up losers when they got older. plus they are looking for some free money to go to college, not knowing that when they sign that contract and go through with it, the government owns them for ever. these are the same kids expecting to drive tanks and fly planes out of basic, when they dont realize that they will be shipped off and put on garrison duty or guarding convoys in the middle east. and these are the same kids who bad mouthed the Sec. of Def. i dont think Donald Rumsfeld know what was going to happen, yet they think hes a fool. "its too hot here, there isnt enough water, all these people ask us for stuff, i wanna drive a tank, i wanna fly a plane, i've only been here 2 months and i wanna go home" you dont hear any of that B.S. from officers who went recieved their rank with experience. ok enough for me. i just woke up and was full of energy and had to get rid of it somehow./rant

Yeah the best way to be prepared for your future is to put cash into other forms of securities all ira's, roth ira's, ect ect.

And smashing politicians for taking your money is Like playing basketball with a retarded kid and calling double dribble. Some **** you just gotta let slide. Politicians, democrat or republican, are going to steal steal steal and oh yes, steal.

Too funny.

I learned at a young age to not depend on anyone other than family (which may not be the case for every family). I intend on saving my own money for retirement...social security checks do not even cover the cost of living anyway.

I thought political threads were no longer allowed?

Good point. I doubt I'll still be living here 40 years from now. I see nasty things on the horizon...

Best bet for retirement = a matching 401k. That way, your employer will contribute money to your retirement as well, effectively halving the amount of time it would take for you to develop a good nest egg. Be sure to watch the economy and adjust your money as the economy shifts. I shifted my funds back into bonds when the recession began and as a result I haven't suffered the massive losses my family did from owning aggressive stock funds. Social Security is a flawed plan that is about to implode - we will all have to rely on ourselves when we grow old.

Who was cleaning up the mistakes of the previous years of mishandleing by the Republicans? You guessed it Al Gore.

America has it's own list of problems without taking on everyone elses that decides they want to live out the American dream. You can make a life for yourself in just about every 1st and 2nd world country in the world, including but not limited to: Canada, France, England, Spain, Japan, China. hey tino......check this out......I'm in the military, and this really burns my azzzz!

It is sad that things happen and people lose family indisasters but there are many who are still here thatneed more help each month than they are getting. YesRush is right in what he is saying.Whether you like Rush Limbaugh or not, this is worthreading!

By Rush Limbaugh

I think the vast differences in compensation betweenthe victims of the September 11th casualty, and those who die servingthe country in uniform, are profound. No one is really talking about iteither because you just don't criticize anything having to do with September11th.

Well, I just can't let the numbers pass by because itsays something really disturbing about the entitlement mentality of thiscountry.

If you lost a family member in the September 11thattack, you're going to get an average of $1,185,000. The range is a minimumguarantee of $250,000, all the way up to $4.7 million.

If you are a surviving family member of an Americansoldier killed in action , the first check you get is a $6,000 direct deathbenefit, half of which is taxable. Next, you get $1,750 for burial costs. Ifyou are the surviving spouse, you get $833 a month until you remarry. Andthere's a payment of $211 per month for each child under 18. When thechild hits 18, those payments come to a screeching halt.

Keep in mind that some of the people that are gettingan average of $1.185 million up to $4.7 million are complaining that it'snot enough.

We also learned over the weekend that some of thevictims from the Oklahoma City bombing have started an organization asking forthe same deal that the September 11th families are getting. In addition tothat, some of the families of those bombed in the embassies are nowasking for compensation as well.

You see where this is going, don't you?

Folks, this is part and parcel of over fifty years ofentitlement politics in this country. It's just really sad.

Every time when a pay raise comes up for the militarythey usually receive next to nothing of a raise. Now the green machine isin combat in the Middle East while their families have to survive on foodstamps and live in low rent housing.

However our own U.S. Congress just voted themselves araise, and many of you don't know that they only have to be in Congressone-time to receive a pension that is more than $15,000 per month and mostare now equal to be millionaires plus. They also do not receive SocialSecurity on retirement because they didn't have to pay into the system. Ifsome of the military people stay in for 20 years and get out as an E-7 youmay receive a pension of $1,000 per month, and the very people who placedyou in harms way receive a pension of $15,000 per month.

I would like to see our elected officials pick up aweapon and join ranks before they start cutting out benefits and loweringpay for our sons and daughters who are now fighting.

"When do we finally do something about this??"

If this doesn't seem fair to you, it is time toforward this to as many people as you can

you know they are raising the age you have to be to collect SS, by time we're that old it will be pushing 70. Kinda sucks, make sure you save some cash so you can move to FL and drive 35 in the fast lane down I-4 with your blinker on.

It's called justifying their inflated budget. If they don't spend X amount of dollars available to them now, or show a need for X amount of dollars, they will not be given the money. If they don't use the money they have in their present budget, a surplus means the military no longer needs as much funding, and therefore will not be awarded X amount of dollars come next budget. When it comes time for the Gov't to give billions to the military, do you really think the military(or any body of gov't for that matter) will actually say "uh, well ya know, we didn't really need all this money...here, take this dollar amount out of our budget"

I'm not saying it's wrong. I say increase pay/living standards of all military and all forms of law enforcement...then put tanks on the Mexican border...but that's a whole different topic.

Bottom line is, if they don't use the money, they'll lose it.

I thought we wre'nt supposed to talk about politics? 99% of politicians are crooked, wether your a donkey or an elephant. (however democrats are worse). In defense of congress, the vast majority actually take pay cuts to serve in congress, most of them are doctors, lawyers, and rich business men (albeit that doesnt make their pension thing right). And finally.......Democrats suck.

A few months ago, I received a letter from the SS office telling me how much I should expect to receive. If I remember correctly, it listed almost $2k/mo if I retire at 55 and almost $3k/mo if I retire at 65.

Nobody can count on SS. Investments are a must....
