Anyone else near the fires down here? I'm in La Jolla and the fires are just a few miles to the east of me. The 15 and 52 have been shut down and the sky is red and raining ash like crazy. I should be ok since I'm real close to the ocean, but I know a bunch of people in the middle of this thing who live just a few miles east of me. Anyone else affected by this blaze?

My car is covered in ash. I'm in Orange County. Sucks, cuz I want to wash my car, but it will just get dirty again.

I'm in Northern Claremont above Baseline and I had to evacuate last night around 4:00AM. Fortunatly the winds died down and when it got light they brought out the helicopters to stop it one hill over from my house. Needless to say, the ash here if falling like rain and I just washed my car on Monday.

Here are some pics of the San Bernardino Fire from my area. Mind you, I'm about 20 miles away, San Bernardino is just on the otherside of the mountain. Oh yeah, and my cam sucks.... ***.

From AM/PM

From the Highway

From the Highway, about 500 feet from my house.

I am just north of San Bernardino, about 20 miles as the crow flies.

And just so you guys know, that is just one fire. There are two other fires to the west (about 30 miles from the eastern fire to the western fire) that I can see from my house, but they aren't as easy to see.

You guys should have seen it last night, I wish I had my camera. At about 3:30 in the morning I took a walk down the street to get a better look at the fire because I could no longer see the flames out my window, and it was incredible. It was really cool until about 4:30 when the cops told us we had to leave, then I got a bit stressed. EVERYTHING is covered in ash though, it sucks. And it's getting dark REALLY early too (not because of daylight savings), like 3-4 PM it's feels like 6-7 PM.

I'm straight, I live on a plateau, it's really flat here, not much shrubbery within about a 50 mile diameter, except for those mountains you can see.

I am worried about one of my friends though, he lives in San Bernardino, near the hill. His name is Stock-S13 here.

You would be suprised though how few things you really feel you need to keep when you have to leave your place though. I took my laptop, my external hard drive, a quilt made for my by my ex-gf's mom, some pics, and my current architecture project. Everything else, is just stuff.

update on the fire... the red spray is approximate location of the fire, red star is me and my communist bastard roomate. (had to come up with excuse for the red star, and my roomate's russian, go figure). Anyway, no school at UCSD tomorrow... though I don't have moday classes anyways. Also, the only freeway open is I-5, everything else is shut down due to fire. Over 100,000 acres has burned, hundreds of buildings destroyed, and I think the death toll is around 15 right now. This is crazy...

That is just the San Diego area.

You should see farther north.

Last count was 260,000 acres with 5% containment.

Hmm? We should dump a few dead cows in each fire. Maybe then it will at least smell like BBQ.

weird, on that one with the cities marked, the dot for LA is in eastern long beach wtf?

definately a coincidence, as the smoke is distinctly moving south-west according to our leet images. the haze you saw is probably from teh reefer
