Alright I got my kit on order from IAP and received SAFC II yesterdya injectors wednesday same with Z32 MAFS. Today I went and got some seafoam.Popped my hood, and hear this ticking above my 1st cylinder/timing chain....I go ahead and run the seafoam anywayz.About an hour later my dad comes home and I ask him what he thinks it is.The noise is gone, but we start talkign and are there for about 3 minutes and it starts again.Used a stick to identify that it is the timing chain. So it's either chain is loose or the guides one of the 2.I'm going to be turboing so I need to change it, 178k on the car.Car doesn't smoke at all. Should I do anything else while I got the valve cover off?Or anyhting to watch out for or do?Thanx. Also having trouble finding what I need for it, any help is appreciated.Comp is having a war with me today can't get it to do anything correctly.

Run seafoam2.Drain oil3.Replace timing chain and remove guides4.New oil and start upGoing to need a timing light just get one from autozone?

Check the oil pressure first. The tensioner is operated by oil pressure. If it just started, that most likely the cause. As for how to check oil pressure, you probably know more than me on that one.

As for the guides and chain. It is the upper timing chain(there are 2) making the sound. Nissan says you can remove the top guide on the upper chain. Most people remove the side guide also.(none have had problems that I know of) As far as I know(not an expert) timing chains don't need replaced unless they have actual defects, as they don't wear. Timing belts do, however, and they need to be changed every so many miles.(KA24 have no timing belts!)

If you do remove the guides, make sure the tensioner is moving freely. Instructions on how to do that are in the link.

hope that helps

Guess I'll check my oil pressure, then just remove the guides and make sure the tensioners can move.

Yes, Remove guides, check tenisioner. If the tenisioner doesn't move freely after cleaning with WD-40, you will have to replace it. I am not sure how to do that. Watch the video in the how-to post I linked in my first post in this thread, so you know how far the tenisioner should move. The chain hits the guides because the tenisioner isn't moving all the way out. If you remove the guides and don't fix the tenisioner, the chain will hit the valve cover(very bad). you will need the gasket and some RTV liquid gasket.

Step 7 and 8 in the how-to thread shows where to apply RTV. U can get it at any auto parts store.

I'm doing mine on Sat. Is the sound up top or down a little lower. Did you check the lower tenisiner also? You need the lower guides but the tenisiner might be gum'd up. Also, both work of of oil pressure, so if the oil pressuer is low, they may not be putting enough tension on the chain.

I am honestly not sure how to check oil pressure. Someone else should help from here, we are getting to the limit of my knowledge, sorry.
