Mostly depends on you state inspections as WD has mentioned in your other thread.

well guys the only thing we do here is check for codes..plug in under the dash...its a few ways around this..down here they'll turn off your cel and have u drive around for x amount of miles and come back.. if ur light is of then no codes have poped back up yet....then it will pass inspection...and if it still fails. we can show the dmv how much money we've spent trying to fix the prob and they'll give us a wavier...so can anybody tell me what type of codes are thrown when you turbo an obd11 car and can this be fixed with some tunning?

Dependings on the tune.

No ROM tune I know of is using OBD2 ECUs yet, therefore they would use OBD1 ECU and you would have a CEL.

Only way currently to not get CEL on OBD2 KA-T would be to use stock injectors/ECU/MAF and use FMU. Thought that limits you on power somewhat.

Can't you swap to an OBD1 ECU and not throw the code? Also, couldn't you go full standalone (AEM EMS) and not throw a code?

I believe you can buy (or build) a conversion harness and run an OBD1 ECU, but no idea if you'll throw a code or not.
I know that my current tuned ECU from EFI Specialist doesn't throw the CEL even though I'm turbocharged and running no emission control devices at all.

When I turbo'd my 96' obd2 i used a JWT ecu, worked perfect.... no CELs. Of course that was about $625 but well worth it.

I got no CEL when I ran my 98 with an E-Manage.

One issue the OP should consider is that if the inspection requires the OBD2 scanner to be plugged in, and he uses an OBD1 ECU, the scanner will error. So it may not pass the inspection. IIRC, all vehicles in the states were required to have OBD2 from model year 1996 and newer. There may not be any way around this.

Blue. The Ultimate came out some time after I got rid of the 240.

I've been thinking about this a lot lately and from what I can find there is absolutely no off the shelf product that will give the needed output through an OBDII port if your state requires it for 96 and newer vehicles. The OBDII code cannot be that advanced, but from what I hear the fines involved have kept anyone from developing a product that outright fools the scan tool. I don't know enough about computers in general to say that a hack isn't possible, but if anyone has made it work in the past they are keeping it a secret.

Living in CT, and having to wait another 6 years until my 97 is emissions exempt with a minimum of 3 emissions inspections required before I can register the car leaves me with 2 options:

1 - every 2 years spend a day or 2 swapping in the stock equipment to pass
2 - getting a waiver.

The waiver is only granted in CT after you spend greater than or equal to $680 on "qualified emissions related repairs from an authorized emissions repair facility"

Both options sound pretty awful, but I am leaning towards just eating the cost every 2 years.
