Just wondering what you folks think of the ASP U/D Pulley (or the UR if you have it, pls mention so). I hear throttle response is improved as well as improvements throughout the powerband. I dont feel this is contested.

Also, I am primarily wondering what parts have failed on your cars in relation to your engine. I have read lots of literature of this, but have thus far seen no real world evidence on the KA specifically. Crank oil seal thingmabobs? Head troubles? Accessory troubles? I would like a concensus. Some claim that it upsets the balance of the engine, and im sure that is correct to an extent, but I havent noticed any trends re: failing parts.

i've never heard of any issues with using UD pullies on the KA. i removed the harmonic dampner (which made up approx. 75% of the crank assembly's weight) on my old ka24e crank pulley and i didn't have any problems.

I have an ASP U/D pulley, it seems to help you alittle up top and smooths things out a bit. I installed it in conjunction with an e-fan conversion, and AC removal. It definately helps but its more of a complementary upgrade, only get it if your lightening other areas of your engine. Dont just drop it in and expect that much of a difference. Best combo would be, e-fan conversion, U/D pulley, AC removal, and lightened flywheel. Im working towards that point but flywheel is pricey and will have to wait.

Only problem I have had is I need to bump up my idle. At night with all the lights on the idle dips maybe 150 rpm. Your underdriving your alt and PS so understand these items will be putting out low power at idle. At any rpm over 1000 the alt will charge normally but its sketchy below 800 with some draw on the system. Only difference between me and other peoples setups is the two e-fans wired up which increases the drag on the alt more.

Do not buy this if you have big stereo equipment in your car, sitting at an intersection your headlights will probably dim to the intensity of flashlights :( .

nobody sells a lightened pulley, do they? i'd like to keep stock size, but maybe get one thats a LOT lighter. when i removed my old front oil seal to put in a newone, we were amazed at how heavy the stock pulley is.

Most likely ASP can make one just out of the lightweight aluminum if you want. It seems like they just carve it out of a solid hunk of metal, so they should be able to control how deep the machine carves, etc.

give them a call, they had good cust service last time i talked to them.

It is very good upgrade to make once it is time to change your crank seal. I bought mine from rpmoutlet.com and was eternally happy with it. It definately helped a lot with autotranny being sluggish. I now have G35 and I'm considering pulley set as one of my next mods.

yknow the harmonic **** on there? its there for a reason. of course you wont see or feel the damage it makes because its inside of the engine wearing away. it wear away super fast. its more of a gradual thing.

i've read about this kinda stuff. i forgot where though. but the result is prematurely worn out bearings and rings.

don't let the name fool you. it's not a harmonic balancer, it's a harmonic dampner. it buffers the shock of the a/c clutch kicking in.

basically just a big metal ring thing to offset the engagement. it weighs a lot too.
