She wants something easy to use and with stopping power. I'm thinking light weight too. A Glock .40 is probably a bit too much for her, what about a 9mm?

Thoughts for a good home-protection gun?

easy and stopping power is a revolver in 38 +p or maybe 44 special.

however if it has to be an automatic, the xd, the glock and the taurus pt series are good guns. if 9 get a good jacketed hollowpoint though so you get stopping power and not pass throughs.

Well, she's a woman and even with practice she may need more that 5-6

I'm thinking something like a Glock 26.

if you go 26, get the mag extension finger extension piece, they can be found that adds one extra round or just allows the pinkie to sit comfortably. her hands will fit better, and if you have to use it it should help as well.

Thx

I'll probably drop by a big gun shop around here sometime this week to see what they have. It does not have to be new, just workable

my g/f started with a Kahr PM9 which is 6+1 or 7+1 with extended mag. she mainly got this one because of it's size because she wanted it for a CCW. while she liked it very much and never had a problem with it, she just couldn't get used to it and because of it's size, it was a bit "snappy". so i bought it from her and use it for my summer CCW when i don't feel like packing my Glock 19.

she bought a Glock 19 like mine and couldn't be happier now.

Glock 19 FTW!

go to a range and rent a compact or subcompact Glock and XD...most ranges rent both now

a 9mm is an excellent caliber for a woman....light recoil, good accuracy and stopping power with the right load.

I <3 my XD .45...but it might be a bit much for a new, especially female, shooter.

Ahem!

Matt, you are on good terms with her right now. . . right?

Kidding of course. I don't know the first thing about guns so I'll GTFO of your thread. Bye.

Wheel guns are better for women. My wife's hand isnt strong enough to work the action on my 1911 Spring field .45 compact. I bought her a snubnosed Taurus .357 mag 5 shot revolver that she loves. Double action so she doesn't even need to c*** the hammer, and the .357 will shoot .38 special ammo (cheap) all day long.
