SO why are supras so much more popular than Zs?

I really don't know why, but there is a cult following behind the 2JZ-GTE (no sh*t) engine, and people absolutely LOVE it. Other than that the Supra is pretty damn sexy when it doesn't look like rice cooked up at the Chong-Wa Buffet...

actually the fastest street tire s30 to my knowledge is 2JZ powered, runs 9's in the quarter, it, got a bit more than elec fans and a front mount though

People get the notion that when they get an Supra, they will get 1000hp out the door with a few bolt-ons, etc. Just an observation I noticed...happens mainly with the Mark 4's.

Don't get me wrong though, I love Supras. However, they are overhyped like no other. I am willing to say even more than the Skyline. Some people say that the Supra is the "crown jewel" of all imports. I beg to differ (SKYLINE FTW! ). They are bloody expensive also!!! (Z32's are expensive also but not as much as Supras) The Mark 4's on ebay usually go for 20 grand and up . The other day I saw a Mark 3 on Autotrader. 110k on it, slushbox, looked like it was in fair condition. The stealership wanted 10 grand for it!

I'd take either one but if I had to choose, i'd go with the Z. I have a few reasons why I would...1 mainly being that I've just been a fan of them for a longer time than I been of Supras.

i think the reason why most people hype up supra's is because the 2jz block is probably one of the most over-built engines to date. people hit 900+hp on stock bottom ends. if you are interested in a very expensive numbers game to best everyone elses digits on the dyno, go with the supra. i think the 300zx is a more [all-around] capable car.

i have owned a mkiv supra and i have to say that its my prefered car. i have never owned a z but will have one in about 3 weeks. if any car is over rated its the skyline. the most power that any factory car in japan produced is 280ps . as far as my reasoning with the supra, is the stock bottom end can handle what most motors including the rb serious motors have to be built to handle. i have worked on a vg30dett and wow is it cramped in their. well just my $0.02. but to each his own. i shoose mkiv for an almost indestructable bottom end and sexy styling.

The most power Japanese automakers could claim was 280hp. Look at the #'s for the R34 280 at something like 4800 rpm....

yeah, the rb26 is comparable to the 2jz, and can put down 300 whp in stock form. talk about underrating factory hp.

Yeah, Supras are a bit hyped, although I wouldn't be too upset if I owned one...Personally, I think the best car to ever come out of Japan was the NSX, particularly the 1997 on up. Imagine dropping TT in one of those like you see in supras and skylines and Z's....

Yeah there a little nicer for a ricer But the inline 6 has alot more room then the V6 that is what would win me over because IT IS SO TIGHT UNDER MY HOOD!

but i wouldnt sell my Z....
