im planning on moving my battery to the back of the trunk - rear right to be exact. the problem is i dont know what the best way to mount the battery. how about using a battery cover? so even if it does explode, the box that covers the battery will keep it from blowing up the gas tank also. as for the wires to reach to the rear of the trunk, what do you guys use?

pictures of what you use would be great.

A battery will not explode to the point that it ruptures the fuel tank. It's not particularly explosive due to the hydrogen gas being unconcentrated.

I suggest a metal battery box tied down very well. If you are in a hatchback you need to make absolutely sure the battery is tied down SECURELY. In the event of a wreck the battery will become a 35 lb. projectile fill of sufuric acid.

I for one would never keep a wet cell battery in the cabin.

If you want my absolute suggestion. Run a full size dry cell with 0 or 1 gauge wires and a solid metal box that is bolted to the chassis.

Right rear is an ideal place for the box in terms of cornerweighting.

Be sure to keep your grounding cable as short as possible.

where can i aquire a metal battery box?

also what do you mean by "Run a full size dry cell with 0 or 1 gauge wires and a solid metal box that is bolted to the chassis."

and finally, what are the benefits for a shorter ground cable? less energy to transfer?

dry cell is a kind of battery(versus wet cell),0 or 1 gage refers to wire thickness, and a shorter wire will have less resistance then a longer one.

when bolting the box down in the trunk is it any more then simply drilling holes and bolting down? are there any special that needs to be done or watched for (other then whats on the other side of what your drilling )?

i made a tray for my battery when i moved it to the trunk, i just bent some sheet metal and welded some attachments to it to bolt down, then used the stock battery tie down to hold it to the tray. i put mine on the left side though. for wiring i used 4 and 8 gauge wire for power and ground since i already had both.
