alright, alright... so we all know this thread . and we also know that everyone says that a KA DOHC head won't fit on a SOHC block. so, what gives? I emailed Smug510 and he said that the DOHC head and gasket were from a 95 240sx. and the SOHC was from a 89 240sx. does anyone know for sure? smug seems to have a pretty good handle on this, but hasn't tried bolting it up yet. Those headgaskets are IDENTICAL, except for the timing cover, which is trivial. please, someone for the love of god tell me!! I need to know for my frankensteining to continue!

p.s. i always wondered why nissan would make 2 completely different engines and call them the same. KA24E and KA24DE. I know for a fact the DOHC CA18DET head will fit on a SOHC CA18ET, so why not a DOHC head on a SOHC block?

Im positive only the dohc truck heads will bolt to the ka24e block. the truck dohc also has distributor in timing chain cover vs in the head like kade 240. I think that somehow the head he checked was a truck type (i know he said i came out of 240, but it could have been swapped with a truck motor at some point?). He probably was able to check another 240 head like he said and it was different, so no more posts.

thats my take anyway

hrmm, i dunno looks pretty close to me. this is a DOHC headgasket for a 91 240sx. i know the url says KAE, but its under 240sx DOHC. here is the SOHC gasket pic. note the gasket should be flipped 180 degrees. these 2 look identical. again, except for the timing cover area and the 4 holes on the back cylinder. but, my 90 240sx headgasket had the 4 holes on the back cyl as well. If only there was a decent junkyard in my area, I'd just go get one and try it out on one of my SOHC blocks.

you can flip them, turn them, or spin them around all you want...

those gaskets are not the same.

The distributor is in the upper cover on my KA, and my FSM shows it as being in the cover.

I've been emailing Smug510 and he said that the 240sx motor the head came off of had the distributor in the upper part of the cover. said it looks like its driven off of the exhaust cam. that sounds like a 240sx KA24DE to me. He also said he will try and put the DOHC head on hs SOHC block when he gets done with the turbo install on another SOHC he is working on. I'll keep y'all posted!

the distributor in my car runs off and idler sprocket, i think thats what the FSM calls it, that turns with the timing chain that is connected to the exhuast cam if thats what u mean.
