well i have a 96 240sx and i am researching about putting an SR in it. i want to put the s13 blacktop since it has less miles. but all i have been seeing is problems not just blacktops..SRs overall. is it just because people get engines from not a good source and put it in without any knowledge? i have never put in an engine but my frinds have put in redtops to s13 and not s14s so i would get them to help me...but now i am kinda leaning towards giving my car to a shop that knows what they are doin...what u guys think? thanks for all the info.

you are about to bet your money on your freind's skill, if that thought gives you any worries DON'T DO IT! Shops can guarantee work and be sued if they get flaky, freinds not so much and they will cease being your freinds.

Also, a large reason that you are only seeing problems is because people generally post in this forum when they are having a problem with their engine. Problems happen in every situation. It's not often that someone will post saying there engine is running great and they aren't having any problems. My redtop was swapped over a year ago and I wouldn't look back. I have had minor problems but they were caused by improper handling of the motor, not by faulty design.

same here, had little problems but still would do it all over again, easy to install if mechanically inclined and a lil help from fellow Nico members it will be simple, but thats your decision to make.
