Car: Maxima and Versa and a Suzuki Burgman

So U want better mileage ... this is what I do. As the V has been much maligned in this forum (regarding mpg) and one wonders if that has to do with advertised values or preceived outcome. Many of my friends drive SUVs and Pickups, huge vehicles that costs a hundred bucks to fill every few days. These guys never blink at this and go on with life. I decided a few years back to purchase a Suzuiki Burgman. I get 65 miles per and it can do 100 mph with "two up" carry groceries and it is very fun to ride ... yes ride it is what is called a Maxi Scooter (same transmission as the Versa CVT). It will beat anything off the mark ... well many not a Ducati. This is my summer ride ... yes not for winter when the Versa is our baby for now. Oh, by the way my 97 Maxima was the best car I have ever owned.

Nothing in your post discussed how to get better mileage. If your suggestion to get better mileage is for us all to get the Suzuki thing then it's not very helpful. I drive a Versa. My concern is to get better mileage out of the car I'm driving.

Was this a place for others to give suggestions on how to make the V more fuel efficient or that we should get bikes and scooters?

I don't know what would make my Versa different than others here. It's a stock SL with CVT and consistently gets a combined city/highway 31 mpg.

Maybe some here have driving habits that don't lend themselves to good fuel economy. Maybe some are more leadfooted than thy think.

The cold will definitely affect mileage.

A lot of city (start/stop) will lower mpg.

Type of fuel used. Many formulas out there, especially during winter affects mileage.

Different tires, a/c running, aftermarket parts (air cleaner and such) affect mileage.
