Stumbled across this today:

VW may be selling its super fuel efficient car to the public! With a 2 cylinder diesel, the car gets a reported 282 mpg. This is the first fuel efficient car that I can actually see myself purchasing. I think the thing is pretty neat!

It might if one drove off a high enough cliff in it... :chuckle: I suspect if VW goes to the effort to make that car US legal, once the airbags, and other stuff get installed, the mileage will be closer to 45 mpg than of 282.

The link says the following, "Rumors put the price of the Volkswagen L1 at anywhere between "20,000 to 30,000 Euros (about $31,750 to $47,622)". But if oil prices keep climbing, that might be a bargain in 2010."
