Joyriding happens ALL the time at dealerships when a nice car is brought in. I used to see it all the time at dealerships I worked on (doing electrical and HVAC work on the buildings). And we were often the guys who were asked to verify the story, also. I guess it's why none of the newer mechanics liked talking to us after a while...

I put Mopar EVTS on my Jag. When I drop it off at the dealership I set it to text me if the car goes faster then 85 mph. It also keeps track of where the vehicle has been. It cost me $600 and there is a monthly fee for the Silver level I have however mine was free because of some other issues I had. It can be installed on anything.

being a tech this pisses me off.I never get after it unless the customer tells me its at hard acceleration.Even then though I still don't squeal tires and melt the clutch.

I pulled a Audi S4 today through 3rd :couch whew... it got up quicker than I thought. Other than that I never get up too fast, usually only floored for a sec to add 10mph. I can safely say I have never dipped anything else at this job w high dollar cars. I just happened to be picking that car up from our other shop a few miles away and saw my chance. I was impressed actually.

My friend used to work at a Chrysler dealer and pushed a SRT8 300C to 120 without a care. Came back w blue smoke out the exhaust. Oh well, not his car.... d!ck...

ps: vid is unavailable for me.

From the Yahoo news article

UPDATE: General Motors says in a statement that if the recording is valid it does not condone the behavior described, and that it is "actively working closely with the dealer to resolve this situation to the customer's satisfaction."

UPDATE 2: According to Clark, the dealership has bought back the Camaro at a price somewhat above its value, and any proceeds from the transaction will be donated to charitable causes.

I'm sure taking down the video on Youtube was part of this deal working itself out.

After actually reading the article, thats really f'd up. I have never ever done a burnout or anything wreckless like that. Ive never even attempted to launch a car that wasnt mine.Thats so stupid. The employees should have to pay for the work and fired atleast, cuz thats some major bs. I dont even steal change from other cars! So stupid.

Same kind of thing happened to Ron Tonkin Gran Turismo several years back. Salesman took a brand new Ferrari F430 Stradale already sold to a customer on a joyride. Drove over some train tracks going sideways and bent the frame. Dealership sold the car as is. Months pass, the dude goes to a Seattle dealership to get a servicing: "Uhhh...sir? Have you been in an accident recently?"
Months of litigation follow with an out of court settlement, To the tune of an even newer f430 stradale and free servicing for the life of the car.
