So I'm driving along, and suddenly my brakes get REALLY hard to press. I think, "I've got this. Brake booster vacuum hose is probably blown off again..." So I stop, pop the hood, and much to my surprise, the engine is idling smoothly, and the hose is very much connected.

I get back in, rev the engine, and pump the brakes. Still stiff. I listen a little more carefully, and every time I press the brake, there's a "whoosh" noise coming from the actuating rod of the brake pedal (Think 80's model Chevy. They all make the exact same noise after a while.), and the idle becomes rough, but only when the pedal is pressed.

No loss of brake fluid, no bubbles. Just crap brakes and crap idle with brakes pressed. Internal seal on the Brake Booster blown? What are my options? Anything other than just R&R?

I am sure you checked it, how is the check valve in the BB line?

Other than that seems like a pretty cut and dry, you need a new brake booster.

You can pull your fender liner and check the brake booster reservoir in the fender. Perhaps a hose leaked/cracked there.

Or is that the clutch booster reservoir... I forget

Lol, Tony. The Brake booster is its own reservoir, that's why it's so big. You are in fact thinking of the clutch booster reservoir. Probably gonne just put one on order. Not looking forward to changing this SOB out. :/

I'll definitely be doing a write-up though, as I've never seen one for the Z32.

If its anything like a 240sx, its a BEAST. Almost have to be a contortionist to get to the bolts up by the brake pedal. Its possible, just take your time Aaron, I have faith in you!!
