So I was driving down a nice paved road last night in my a/c lifted pathfinder when all of the sudden something didn't feel right so immediately I pull over and come to find that my strut had some how gotten disconnected from the coil and the bollt it connects to inside the enginne bay had popped off...so now the tire is folded out and there is a joint the popped out and my biggest concern is the axle because the piec inside the rubber housing either broke or just came out I'm not sure which...any enlightenment on how this area of the car works would be great I am hoping I can just possibly reconnect everything...my car is still sitting in the middle of nowhere

I'm thinkin a/c is gonna hear an earful from me this whole situation is due to their crappy lock nut getting stripped I am honestly never buying ANYTHING from them ever again...this put me in an extremely dangerous situation while I was driving and I almost flipped

I censored your original thread because it had profanity in the thread title. Please don't make a duplicate thread as it will just get deleted.

Maybe you should analyze what happened before calling anyone and chewing them out. AC makes springs, I doubt the spring is the issue. Your description is all over the place but it sounds like the bolt that fastens through the strut bearing is what broke. Is this correct?

Well I'm thinkin a/c should analyze problems like this...I'm gonna have to buy a new cv half shaft and a new strut because this set up broke and I'm wondering if any of this equipment is warrantied by them is there any place in town that would sell a kyb strut like the ones they sell like an autozone or checkers or pep boys or something?

well i'm thinking you installed it yourself and you have no idea what the hell you're doing. it's not AC's fault that you botched the install.

Ummm first off I know what I'm talking about/doing I am a certified mechanic and I was runner up overall best in class at wyotech in 08 and I majored in automotive tech, high performance engines and custom chassis fabrication and got a minor in custom paint and I DIDN'T "botch" the install it was a faulty nut/strut from the strut company that isn't built to withstand a/c coils

Pretty much everyone who has the AC coils is also running KYB GR2's and this is the first I've heard of the bolt going through the strut bearing stripping out if that's what's happened. Maybe it was a flube because the bolt thread can definitely take the added tension the AC coils apply. Plus the KYB's aren't built specifically for the Pathy/QX4 coil spring tension.

BTW you're 18 and still in high school, ease up on the ego and cut the BS of when you were 16 you created water. But, I'm glad to see you know how to capitalize letters and assemble words into sentences. Most people your age don't.

ya anyway, you have no idea what you're doing. i suggest you take the axle and new strut assembly to a REAL mechanic and have them do the work for you.

in your first post, you said, "something didn't feel right so immediately I pull over." you also said, "this put me in an extremely dangerous situation while I was driving and I almost flipped." so which is it? get your story straight. does 'almost flipping' qualify as 'didn't feel right' to you?

it happened to me a long time ago... the KYB struts were only a few months old and the springs were stock. The KYB threads stripped right off.... now i run 2 nuts on the threaded shaft instead of one.

i did 4 hours of wheelin like this, keffer, and my axle was fine

puctured the engine bay

Ok first off idk why the site says I'm 18 I will change that...I'm 20 I graduated early from highschool and if you would like I could put a picture of the plaque I got and the cretificate up...and the bolt stripped and did exactly what fueler is showing except the strut was popped in the other direction a lot woorse and disconnected the cv half shaft, bent the tie rod, damaged the sway bar link, and possibly damaged the steering stabalizer it happened on the same side too and fyi it caused me to almost flip and immediately when this happened I slowed down. I really dislike be looked down upon because of my age just because I'm 20 doesn't mean I'm stupid when it comes to torqueing bolts and it also doesn't mean I'm negligent when I'm driving! (Just in case someone wants to bring that up for a reason it broke) and I'm not trying to flaunt an ego I just really get upset when people tell me I do stuff wrong instead of suggest it

alex is just making a joke. you probably mean power steering pump. But either way, that sucks.

Next time put 2 nuts on top of the strut, and check them periodically. I havent had any problems since.
