So... other than that Foxmarketing Versa, who's Versa installed a Turbo?

The Nissan Versa Tech Discussion forum is the place to discuss Versa performance modifications and maintenance.

The person who bought said turbo but then his car went kaput. I dont know HOW MANY TIMES this needs to be said. The Versa is not the car to be doing this with. If you wanted something fun that you could tool around with and do major builds for you picked the wrong platform to do it with.

What I want to find out is who did that kind of mod... Like how many cars did end up with a Turbo or Charger, or even an Engine swap.

So far, no one seems to be able to answer me these few questions, is the CVT transmission of Versa = the one from Sentra SER (NON Spec V)

Other than that, for those cars who did that Turbo mod, what have they change? Speically the engine internal...

Everyone knows Versa isn't a sport car, but... if no one do those testing, no one will know how far the engine, speically the transmission can go...

I believe that kit is for the HR engine, not the MR.

Apparently the engine can't go very far as said by some of the commenters. This is not the type of car you modify or do swaps of any kind on. No one has done any sort of mod to the 1.8 or 1.6 Versa other than Fox Marketing, that I know of.

I can't tell you if the Sentra's CVT is the same as the Versa's, I'm betting no though. Here's the issue, the Versa was never intended to do any sport duty.

The suspension and chassis is built for economy and comfort. The engine was meant to be a decent gas saver. Nothing about the car was intended to deal with any type of excess in power and speed. It'd be pointless to swap out a perfectly good engine for something older and less reliable.

Not trying to be mean, but you picked the wrong car to want to do modifications on. If you wanted something that could haul stuff and be fun, you should've bought a Civic HB or a Mazdaspeed 3. The Versa is not the type of platform to do any power/performance mods on. I think you'll see more "show" Versas than "performance" Versas, if there'll even be performance Versa's.

The CVT is probably the same as the Sentra (since flywheel/clutch are the same on the MT 2.0L). But CVT has proven to be not good for power (boosted), by boosted Altima's with CVT.

And without someone being able to do tuning for the application then all this turbo talk is useless.

This is just frustrating. There is no reason why the Versa can't be a performance vehicle. The problem is that unlike a Honda the parts don't exist yet and you'll have to be a bit more creative or have a bit more money. At one point or another every vehicle started here where we are. With very few or no parts and it took people time work and figure it out. Okay so that's the end of my rant, no hard feelings just sick of always hearing "you shoulda bought a honda".

On another note, if there are people seriously interested in doing these types of mods then you need to try and coordinate with a reputable tuning shop or larger company so it can be done right. Let's see how it goes. Maybe if "Go Versas" start showing up more parts will as well.

Well said. With that in mind. I'm just starting to mod mine. I can't wait to see where are V's are next year!

Except the Versa isnt a performance vehicle. No part about it is a performance vehicle. It all boils down to the cost vs. gain argument. Sure, you can swap an engine, weld the chassis, reinforce it, change out the transmission, and do fifty other mods to turn it into a performance vehicle. For that amount of money you could just get a 350Z and do some light mods to it and have a better vehicle than the end product of a "performance" Versa. It's not all about ride height either. The Versa is a tall vehicle. Not good for trying to throw it around corners. It was made to have a decently low C/D to increase mpg.

I could go on and on...

actually, you can throw it around a lot. ive taken the V to several solo2 events with some other members on this forum and it handles magnificently, you would be suprised on really how well the car is, i didn't know the car could handle and perform so well.

Maybe for a little auto-cross event. I can't see it doing well at trying to take high speed truns.

Well lets see, I can do approx. 80 - 100 kph around this turn. I looked it up on Google Earth and saved the photo taken by satellites. On this road you can easily do 180 kph (Done it with the V, 1995 Civic HB, and even a 1998 GSI Accent).

The V is the fastest of the 3 (Even when my Civic HB had Header, Full Exhaust, CAI, Chipped ECU and Standard besides) and why do I say 80-100 kph? Because I had a set of 17" MSR 029 Rims with 205/40R17 Tires on my V and I could do it at 100 kph, now with winter tires on regular steel rims, I can only do 80, after that I am risking some oversteer and I definitely dont wanna go off the road.

A bit of information about the road. Its 3 Versa's wide and no potholes or defects. And yes, I used the whole road, not just one side.

Oh and as to saying Civic HB and Mazda 3's are fast, thats bull****, my V is faster than a Mazda 6 and I am NOT bull****ing, I dragged my buddies last night and I was the victor, not by a mile, but maybe half a car length. And the V is definitely faster than the 3 and ALL CIVICS other than the SI's, in my area anyway. I am representin here and doin a damn good job to. I will post a better pic when I go back out to my mom's for a visit, and no, I dont live with mommy I make a hard earned living, not all my income goes towards my car, at least $1300 are out in bills each month, just imagine if I was living with my mommy, wow, I would probably have a custom working turbo setup by now.

I never said a stock Civic or Mazda 3 was faster than a Versa. A Mazdaspeed3 is. You can also easily modify Civics to be faster because of the aftermarket support. I mentioned the civic because you can modify it fairly easy to be faster.

Oversteer? Are you sure you don't mean understeer? Oversteering is when you lose grip in the rear wheels and the rear end starts to rotate. Drifting is the easiest demonstration of oversteer. Understeer is when the front wheels lose their grip and their ability to turn the vehicle. I doubt it's oversteer. If anything you're either just running out of road or understeering on your "80-100 kph" turn.

So if you were living with mommy you'd have a custom turbo setup by now? You'd probably have at least 1 blown engine by now and a transmission thats on its last legs. It isn't as simple as just throwing a turbo into a car and making 300 whp. There's more fuel needed, possibly a better transmission, better wheels and tires to deal with the added hp, bigger brakes, better breathing on the intake and exhaust side, e.t.c. You'll be spending at least $6000 or more to modify a car, not to mention cost for when something breaks.....and something WILL break.

I can't believe you actually said "Representin". Way to be hardcore there yo.

Although I usually don't agree with Red on a lot of stuff, I HIGHLY doubt that a V can beat a MS3. I would even go as far to say that even if the V was turboed it couldn't beat the MS3. The speed 3 is one of if not the best cars out there in its class.

A basic Mazda 3 would probably pull even with a V. A Mazdaspeed 3 is a completely different story. I kinda wish I would've waited a lil longer and got one instead of a V. Don't get me wrong, for the money the V is a good car. A MS3 is just gonna be more fun even though its a front driver.

Did anyone here me say Mazdaspeed 3? Oh and does anyone on here know ANYTHING about driving and cars. Here's the answer to your "IMPOSSIBLE FWD OVERSTEER" answer.

http://www.modernracer.com/tip....html

Oh, and I make $6000 MONTHLY, for your information, so I am pretty sure I can pay a company to custom fabricate a turbo setup, along with forged internals and whatever else that is needed to make a true turbo engine last. But thats right, I have bills and alot of them, and if I were living with mommy and daddy, I would have saved up enough in 6 months to pay for a 350Z and in 2 months to pay for an R32 Skyline, but I got my Versa and I love it. I always said I will kill myself in something that is MEANT to go fast.

So before your mouth wanders to far into the unknown waters of Automotive knowledge, think before you speak, and yeah, representin sounds a bit hardcore to 22 year old maggots. Your in the Military for a reason, its because your not an Automotive Technician.
