that was my exact final two between an 07 TL type S and the 07 G35x. guess who won.

actually, I had a bunch of stuff on the mustang including a bunch of timing in the tune, so I used premium on that toogwoods wrote:The only thing you should miss about the Mustang is the regular unleaded gas. Your G will spank a Mustang GT at the track and is more fun to drive.
Pretty sure his stang was modified. I know my 97 cobra (after modding) handled pretty darn good!!!Poyzinous wrote:the mustang probably felt like it handled better, but real testing will show that the G will outhandle it in pretty much any scenario.
Back when we got our 05 Sedan (traded for the 08) the wife was SOLD on the TL until she drove them back to back! (I was sold on the G from the start) THEN, we got the G! Happy that the wife knows the difference!!!martymacfly wrote:Welcome to the club!
I was also deciding between the TL and G, bought the G back in late December. I thought the TL had more "stuff" - radio sounds better and a bigger back seat. But the fit of the drivers seat and the power, plus what I thought was a little better ride made it a pretty easy choice on the G after spending a day behind the wheel of each (well, a weekend in a demo G).
I'm also in CO, bought mine from Mike Ward.
Now I just have to finish getting through the break in period.
I was actually pretty impressed with the TL as well. It's a very nice car inside and out. Overall the G definitely performed a better. The TL has good power but their SH-AWD system is more geared to dry road performance than snow/ice and wet conditions handling whereas the G's AWD seems to be a more true AWD system that would be more effective in the snow. Obviously I think we made the right decision to go with the G over the TL.SVTCOBRA wrote:

The only current bodied Mustang I have lost to at the drag strip is the bullitt

Looks like we're neighbors!I also live in Highlands Ranch, but have Denver listed in my info because people NOT from CO are much more likely to know where Denver is than HR. But I also got my G37x from Mike Ward. I got a good deal but had to brow-beat the hell outta those people!martymacfly wrote:Welcome to the club!

My car is stock except for the Fujita short ram air filter kit. It saves me money on every oil change not having to buy 2 filters and makes the intake honk louder.4wheelkillr wrote:

I see your sig say "Nico mechanic" so i'm assuming you've got a bunch of mods on your car. It's pretty hard to compare stock cars to those with mods. Stock for stock the '05 mustang GT has a little less HP, about 60 more tq, shorter gearing, and lighter overall. It's hard to say that the G is faster in that regard.
I do have personal experience racing G-cars at our track here in denver, which keep in mind is at about 6,000 feet of altitude. My best times STOCK were in the 14.5's (13.96 with mods)....and every G35 I ever raced against (never against a G37 though) were all deep into the 15's, usually 15.5-15.9s.
Obviously I'm on an infiniti forum so it's giong to be hard to find people that admit that a Ford can be faster than the beloved G cars. The people over at the Civic Si forum ar ethe same way!
Anyway, I'm a G owner now myself so I'm certainly not bashing the G...it's a great car, but they're built for different purposes and designed to do different things than the Mustangs.
Interesting since the G has a RWD based AWD and the TL has the FWD based AWD system.4wheelkillr wrote:

That's certainly interesting.Bandimere Speedway's acutal altitude I think is 5890. Generally the DA here is between 7500-8500 feet. A few years ago during the Mile High Nationals during a particularly hot day it was over 10,000 feet which is just nuts.gwoods wrote:

My G runs 14.0 at 100 mph here in Phoenix. Our DA is normally 2000-3000 feet.
The Mustang GTs here in town run 14.2-14.5's at 95-98mph, except for the Bullitt that car is a high 13 second car in Phoenix.
Take your G to the track and see how it does? There is a little button on the lower dash by your left knee that says VDC. Make sure you turn that off. On back - back runs at the drag strip VDC cost me a half second
Its amazing how much DA effects performance hu!4wheelkillr wrote:

I'm pretty suprised that a Mustang GT at 2500 feet DA would run SLOWER than my own at 8,000ft DA. I'm assuming we're speaking of S197 mustangs which are the 2005+ body styles. Although I do know that in '07-'09 the GT's rear end was chopped to a 3.23 rear end. Mine was a 3.55 stock. They also have "track packs" that include a 3.73. Doesn't seem like much but a 14.5 second 1/4 mile pass on a stock GT at 2500 feet sounds like piss poor performance to me! Maybe there are just no real Mustang Drivers in Phoenix!!
There are several of us Ford/Mustang lovers here. Generally, our Nico brothers don't bash mustangs too bad, of course there is a bias.4wheelkillr wrote: Obviously I'm on an infiniti forum so it's giong to be hard to find people that admit that a Ford can be faster than the beloved G cars.
