So now i dont have a/c........i think its electrical or the pump

So i am at work sitting in my car....i start the thing and since its like 90 degrees outside i turn on the a/c and i hear a screech and my idle drops then revs then dies......i start my car again only to hear the same problem. The car will run without a/c or defroster, but when i turn them on the car makes a screech and dies......i need help bad cause here in Florida we need cold air or im just gonna haft to get rid of my 240 and get a new one....i dont know what im gonna do yet but i would like to know what the problem is so please help me fix my problem. oh and btw i think the pump froze but im not sure if the a/c//heater pump is the same pump or there are separate ones....? With the engine off, grab the A/C pulley and try to turn it. If it has resistance, the A/C clutch is bad. "Remove old. Installation is reverse of removal." Sorry, flashback from using Haynes manuals.
