Does it take a while to "break" this equipment in or something? Because after reporting the grinding noise and resistance in the wheel when making a full right at 2-10mph, reading all the posts here about it, and the dealership replacing my steering rack just yesterday, the problem is STILL there.

In fact, it now seems to be even worse. I felt it at about 14mph making a right turn, and I think it's happening on left turns as well.

What is the problem? Do the mechanics not drive these cars after replacing parts like this? Do they simply put them in and assume it'll be fine? And is this issue so baffling that Infiniti engineers just can't figure it out?

After some other issues with my dealership I'm now going to take the car to a dealer in Virginia, and tell them about the exact same problem and that the steering rack was replaced. I'm interested to see how they'll handle it...no pun intended

I am shocked. If your heading to my neck of the woods, let me know I would like to see what's up with this, we've all been following this saga. Did they say anything to you about it when you picked it up?

The one thing I can tell you is that if anyone from the company was there they should have driven it.

I don't know what has happened here but I am really curious about this. I wonder if any of the other members who have made the "short list" are members? I am trying to help you guys as much as possible but it's hard to get things going sometimes.

EDIT-No Offense. I edited your thread title, While I personally understand your frustration the bosses at Nico frown upon that sometimes.

I appreciate you following this issue.

They didn't say anything, no. And in fact I had only told them that there was a "grinding noise" when making full rights at slower speeds; didn't mention steering rack at all, but they told me they replaced it while going over what they done. So they must know what's up.

However it is clear nobody test drove the car. Otherwise they would have noticed that the steering rack replacement did not do anything and also that the rattling i told them was coming from the plastic piece behind the driver's door handle was still there, even though they somehow decided it was the A/C vent and replaced that...when the old vent made absolutely no noise

And yes I am going to be in your part of the woods, when I take my car to Passport Infiniti in Alexandria and tell them that the issue has not been resolved by the new steering rack.

Maybe I'll end up like my co-worker and her Volvo. She had a weird noise in her car and, after umpteen trips to the dealer and replacement of a ton of parts to no avail, Volvo bought her a new car

<p>I should just add I guess I imagined the problem when making a left turn. I tested today and it doesn't happen turning left, only right.

Oh I know that place, all too well.

Have you already been there?

A piece of felt tape would have fixed that interior door trim piece in 2 seconds, but a new vent really?

Feel free to email me and let me know when your coming by I would really like to take on your case. Fixing real problems is so much fun.

I haven't been there before, no.

Where would the felt tape go on that trim? Because if I just put my fingers behind the door handle i can move that plastic piece back and forth a little and even press down on it and make it hit its surroundings. When i'm driving on a bumpy road...that contact is making the thing rattle.

I'm going to personally show that to Passport Infiniti when I take it in. I'll let you know when I plan on going there

The felt tape would actually go on the back side of the small cover that is behind the release handle. A small plastic trim panel tool is used to seperate the locking tabs and once thats out, tape is applied to the back and the reinstalled and you would never know it's there.

That's great, coming into a new dealer with a tech that knows your story will give you a better chance of getting this resolved without repeating everything you have already been through. I can set up an appointment for you if you are interested, I want to ensure that your car does not get dispatched to someone who doesn't know the story.

I'm definitely interested in setting up an appt. Do you work at the dealership?

And would you have any insight into getting my wheels refinished? It's the standard curb rash and two of them have some scratches maybe 2.5 inches in length. Is there someone at Passport that does this?

Yeah I run one of the Teams at Passport.

We have a guy that comes in on Wednesdays to do wheel repairs, like a curbing refinish.
