I have a few questions for the 240 aficionado's on this forum....

I own a 1990 240sx hatchback ka24e

first off I do not have my cluster and hvac interior lighting, all other interior lighting including warning led's and dome light are functional.

Secondly I do not have reverse lights and when I press on the brakes my (correct me if I am wrong) neutral lights turn on. I also do not have high beam on the passenger side even after I replace the light (fuse is fine).

Third, The speedometer and tachometer do not work on my gauge cluster, although the speedometer does decide to tweak out on occasion.

and finally I would like to know if there is any way to remove the gauge cluster without completely tearing apart the dash because I have not succeeded as of yet (I cannot remove the cluster at all)

I apologize for the lengthy issue but I am tired of having these problems, I have had them since I bought the car.

Ok, lets see if I can answer some of these for you.First Question: Might be a fuse, check that, and if that isn't the problem, I couldn't tell you what it is.

Second Question: Also might be a fuse. Third Question within the Second Question: The brake lights should come on when you press on the brake.

Third Question: The speedometer problem could be a loose speedo cable. I don't know about the tach problem though.

Fourth Question: No, there isn't a way to remove the gauge cluster without taking apart pretty much the entire dash, but it isn't really as difficult as you would think, you just need to have the time to do it.

you dont have to take the whole dash out to get the cluster out, just drop the steering column, it aint easy but not too hard either

Well as far as your cluster lighting goes check to see if the bulb in the dimmer switch works, that bulb is the first in the cluster series so if it burns out the cluster will not light up. Second the HVAC unit has an circuit board on the rear, remove the board and check for burnt traces or cracked solder joints, if there are resolder them. Finaly check to see if your ashtray light works, that bulb is also on the same circuit as some other interior light (not sure exactly which ones) and if it is dead can cause more lights to not function. Hopefull some of those procedures will do something for you, good luck

The ashtray light does work..... I didnt really explain my situation very well... If I have the exterior lighting turned completely off, when I press on the brake pedal the brake lights turn on as well as the parking lights, every time I press on the brake the parking lights turn on..... it is difficult to explain, I have also noticed that my clock light is constantly on until I turn the exterior lighting on then it turns off.....

any help would be greatly appreciated and I will get my lazy *** out there tomorrow and remove the gauge cluster to check for problems.

thank you guys for the help any answers are really helpful
