So my CA20 has just s*** the bed for the last time. i'm not going to put any more $$ or labor into a motor that's not going to give me any satisfaction.87 Stanza GXE... fully loaded and every electrical works great. just the motor is poop. Been lurking and readin all different forums and i guess a CA18DET could be had and dropped in no problems, right? Where/who would i get a CA18DET from? Boost_boy?Thanks for your help, going to try to drive 2 miles away from home and have it towed to my friend's shop 45 miles away... Thank you AAA!

If you aren't looking to go turbo you could always drop in a FWD CA18DE. It would still be a nice increase in hp over your CA20E.

Here's some places I've heard of folks buying motor sets/clips from.

How come some CA18DET motors are rated with different HP?

Yeah, anything is better than the CA20E but i heard i can turbo the CA20E. I just miss driving a turbo car; long story short, i owned a 300ZX twinturbo for 5 years and it got stolen. :-(

Got one AWD variant left! Was my girlfriend's car spare motor, but I have no use for it. It has no ECU or harness, but you can use the RWD harness and ECU as they are pretty much close in length and format. If interested, let me know! A CA18DE in a stanza blows! The stanza is a bit heavier than the B12/B11 sentras and KN13 pulsars. She needs boost and the DET will offer that in a nutshell.

Can i use the AWD variant for my FWD setup? If so, please email me and give me a price! [email protected]What about ECU and harness? where can i track one of those down? i have access to a shop that can do the swap (myself) but it would be so much nicer if i can do the swap without making a ghetto harness and stuff. thanks!!

Hey chivas, I edited your post a little so that it read correctly. You had CA28e up, there and it was confusing.

[email protected][/quote] Any which way it goes, there will have to be some modification to this harness. You can use the RWD harness and ecu as explained before in my previous post because it is very rare that you find a complete harness in FWD/4WD fashion. And yes, you can use the AWD engine i nyour stanza as I use the same one in my FWD sentras as well. In case you didn't know, these engines come in Stanza/bluebirds in Japan.

you could get a ca18det head and slap it on the ca20e block with some new rods and pistons. it would be a fair amount of work but the engine would probably be quite wicked. dont know if it would be worth the hassle to you though. good luck with the car.

Do you think the head will bolt up? I thought someone (can't remember who) tried it and not all the bolts lined up or something. I've never even SEEN a CA20, but I'd love to try and put one together. I think it would be a blast.

It will, but you'll run into minor issues on the timing belts side.

how can i tell a 200sx didnt come with a ca18e did it? just the ca18et, and ca20 e correct? there is a auto 200 at the pick and pull yard, the guy said i can have the motor for 50 bucks so i figured it would be worth it just for comparison and learning purposes if nothing else.

goooo foooorrr eeeeeet!!! especially if its a ca20 and you end up doing the ca20det conversion. then when youre done you can lie to me and say it was incredibly easy and simple, so i go and get myself in trouble with my parents for needing financial aid to get my car running because i ran out of money halfway through my project...again.

i'm going to do the ca18det swap soon. if you want my motor, it's yours for almost nothing... PM or IM me if you are interested and we'll talk.

Alright, before I go and start a new post, I saw this and I had to reply... now I'm looking at getting an '88 200SX coupe. Will the CA18DET drop right in, or will I run into problems? What about with the engine harness? Also... a little off topic, but does anyone know where to get a sport suspension for a 200SX? There's basically NOTHING on the aftermarket for these cars. I know Erebuni makes a kit, but even that's for the hatch I think. I don't care about being flashy, I just want something to help the handling of this car.

i don't know why you want to hate yourself but I dug this up for you:

http://darksci.net/~crim/pub/nx/in.html

it seems like a better choice overall. it has everything step-by-step (god i hate that song!) to do the swap as well as where to get the parts. I might just skip over the CA though it should just bolt right up to my stanza but if i have some place with instructions, i might as well do that.

Good luck!

The CA will bolt in to an S12 with little problem, it was actually an option in JDM S12's. However, unless you find an old S12 CA transmission you'll find the S13 transmission is shorter than the S12 and your shifter won't line up with the hole in the floor. Not sure how others have worked around this. You'll need a custom front driveshaft section. You'll also need to wire in a CA harness and ECU.

Check out ClubS12.org's Hybrid S12 section. Plenty of good info there on doing a CA swap.

TIME-OUT... i can shove a S12 transmission with my CA18DET motor? where can one obtain one of these S12 transmission you speak of if it works? the stock auto in my 87 stanza will hate me once the ca18det is put in.
