For a few years now, I've been carrying a Columbia River Knife and Tool KISS around:

While it's thin, simple, and generally a nice little piece, one's hand tends to slid toward the blade if you encounter resistance while cutting. Nasty!

So, it's time to retire it. I'm open to suggestions, let's see what you've got!

Note: Don't mention a multi-tool. I've got a very nice Gerber that comes with me most places, but there's no good place for it to live other than it's pouch, and sometimes that's just not an option.

I'm a fan of the Kerhsaws with the assisted opening.

I carry a Kershaw Blur on me. 60 bills at walmart with a wicked sharp factory edge I still haven't sharpened.

had it for 9 months or so....

fast and easy to open...it's got a solid build and a nice design...a very positive grip.

the biggest plus for me is that it's quite thin really...doesn't really intrude when sitting in the car or anything...especially nice considering it's size.

mine has a Tanto half serrated blade...I'd opt for a plain blade as the serrations are really deep and just kinda get rounded off.

I enjoy most of Kershaw's designs, though I sliced the piss outta my thumb trying to open an early Onion.

The problem with your option is that the clip doesn't render the knife flush. This is a bit of an annoyance for me with a knife that is carried in pocket.

I'm now looking into this:The Benchmade PIKA II. I'm more than pleased with my other Benchmade, but they're normally much too expensive for an EDC. This one though, is not! Cooool. Interesting that Benchmade is knocking off Spyderco.

Also, while convenient, these other forums don't get a whole lot of traffic, do they?

Benchmade benchmite 2 Slightly longer then the CRK, and an easier handle design. Average price ~$27

I run on the dangerous side, i'm usually carrying around a benchmade 3.5" butterfly.

Too small, the KISS has a 3" blade. I'd like to match that.

On carrying balisongs:While Florida is GREAT to concealed carriers, they're plain stupid for those of us without them (but mines in the mail!). The only thing I can conceal is an "average pocketknife." However, I can open carry anything. Stupid.

Once my CCP comes in, I'll be carrying a push-dagger to supplement my Kal-Tec or cover for it when it's not practical. I DO still want an "average pocketknife" with no defensive aspirations.

The last knife you'll ever buy (unless you loose it or law enforcement confiscates it)

Emerson CQC-7 if price is not an object.

Here's a page on what they make.

I had the Kershaw Whirlwind, the silver version of that knife. I loved it, but somebody stole it. Most money I ever spent on a knife.

Boker makes some good quality knives you might want to check out. One of the more interesting ones I saw had a retracting pocket clip. http://www.knifecenter.com/kc_...10560

I've carried one like this for years (different wood handles, but same blade):

Frost Cutlery makes it and calls it the Little Warrior. It's cheap and hard to destroy. It also won't hold an edge for crap. Suits me alright, though.

Yep, I carry a CQC-7 as well as others. I have a standard issue Spyderco Endura in my pocket right now with a non-serrated blade. There are some higher-end folders I would like to have, but I don't see the point just yet.

Found it!

Gerber EVO jr.

It's damn near a copy of my beloved CRKT M16, but smaller, with the clip the way I like it, and a lot cheaper. $13 out the door. It'll make a nice match to the steal of an $11 Gerber multitool I picked up a few years ago.

Which is odd, really, as I'm pretty brand-loyal and Gerber wasn't on my loyalty list. We'll see if they can worm their way onto it.

Why didn't I find this thread sooner?

I LOVE my pocket knife. It's a Gerber Valloton.

Assisted-open (once unlocked, a little nudge is all it takes to open the blade, but at the same time it doesn't open accidentally). It has a lock so it won't open in your pocket.

It feels good in your hand and has a nice solid heft appropriate to a knife of it's quality. But the way it opens and closes is simply superb. Smooth, clean, effortless action either way. It's a one-handed knife. Instead of a traditional thumb or spine lock like most pocket knives, the knife locks (open or closed) with the thumb slide you see in the picture above. Easiest knife to open and close I've ever used, but the blade still stays open or closed until you release the lock. EVERY knife should use this lock system.

It's adjustment and cleaning friendly (just don't loose the tiny ball that serves as the bearing for the slide lock mechanism--although you shouldn't, as it's embedded into the slide). It has a metal clip on the side not pictured.

What is "because these sub-forums are a terrible idea and get very little traffic," Alex?

Butterflies are awesome. Like I've said, though, in FL, you can't carry them without a CCP (still waiting for my paperwork to go through). I know some dude who can make those suckers dance, though.
