ok this is getting really old now.ive just toasted my second 70$ electric fan switch and i have no idea why.im using that nifty little electronic one avaliable at pepboys or advanced auto but it keeps eating relays and then burning out.this is getting to be a real problem as the first time round it caused the engine to overheat and now my fans stay on forever.what are you guys using to turn your fans on and off?i really would hate to wire in ANOTHER one of these crappy switches only to have it short on me again.......

$17 thermo switch from Jeg's that turns it on when it reaches 180 deg..even stays on when key is removed.

Run dual switches, relays and thicker gauge wires.

well with the fans i have now they both draw 7.5 amps apiece.the relay is rated 40/50a so it should handle it no problem.the switch is also designed to accomodate 2 electric fans, so im really not sure whats going on.

my perma cools reccomend a 30a fuse for each fan because the fans can spike. it only draws 7.5a when running.

can you draw out your wiring schemtic in paint or something?

Probably spec's at 7.5A but most likely a lot more. Also that's running current. Startup current draw is much more than that, and is probably the cause of your problems.

I am running the same switch, Carl, no problems with it. This is the second car Ive had it in, too, and it works fine.

I'm running a 25A switch from radioshack, simple circuit, switch is b/w battery and fans, no fuse or relay. I'm sure I'm asking for trouble, but is working fine and the wires and switch stays cool.

I have had a 30amp relay from Radioshack melt on me already, causing the fans to stay on all the time. I suspect that is was an OLD relay that I had laying around, so I bought a new one and I have had no problems thus far.

If I do have any more problems, I am just gonna run one relay to each fan, resulting in a twin relay setup, instead of a single....
