Yes you can and insurance won't care. If the aftermark parts are more money, you'll have to pay the difference. However, paint and labor would be covered. The good part is that a lot of the time, aftermarket parts are cheaper then the OEM replacements anyways. So go for it.

This sucks...but sounds like it could turn out to be good for you in the long run. Wish I had actually owned my AC when I had my accident, could have had a full kit!

Good luck.

I know this may sound shady BUT go to several body shops. find the most expensive one you can. show that to the insurance company and then you can have them send you the check and then once you have the money, you can do what ever you want with it. you can buy aftermarket parts and take them to a body shop and have them installed.... If you find a cheaper body shop that does good work, you can even take it to them instead of the expensive one. just remember, the bigger the price, the bigger the check lol but its good that your ok. guess you wont be making it out to the Nor Cal meet

i experienced otherwise lol when i got hit from behind due to a drunk driver, i was told they wouldnt cover aftermarket parts which back then i had an aftermarket bumper (ait). i was told by my insurance company that basically they will replace anything as long as it goes back to stock not aftermarket.

BigRig: it sux just seeing those pics dude! hope everything works out good dude

I would present the insurance company with a list of the OEM parts as compared to the aftermarket parts you want. Show them that some are cheaper than OEM or that the totally will be about the same if they arent and try and work with them. That is of course, as long as the total actually DOES come out the same or cheaper.

Godspeed...

went to the shop this am, farmers wants to put reconditioned parts on my car, but the repair guy told me that was really not an option seeing as how coupes are so rare in this area. the damage is about 3k and the guy is going to fix a ding some lovely auto enthusiast gave me in the grocery store parking lot. no luck on the aftermarket parts as of yet. they have to be sure there are no reconditioned parts in the area before we can talk aftermarket, i guess.

Reconditioned?!?! Thats BS! Do you own the car or have a lease/finance on it? If you do, get the title holder involved, they will at least get you NEW parts.

:werd: NEW parts if anything, don't get anything used that's not right.

And good luck getting the hood, the CF GT concept hood is like 2 or 3 hundred more than stock hood, and latches are another 100 (no installation). So unless you are also paying out of pocket I don't think insurance would be covering that much unless you cheaped out on another section of your car.

I'm trying to have work done to my car, but I need to know how much money I'm playing around with first.

Good luck on repairs, sorry for the incident and I'm glad no one was hurt (to my knowledge)

yeah, i own the car, well i financed it, but it's in my name. the guy at the shop was kinda peeved that they insurance wanted to put reconditioned parts on my car too, but they say after 10k miles, they go for reconditioned, per farmers ins. i have 24k on the car and have not even owned it a year, i will totally fight the used parts going on my car tho. and btw, the insurance doesnt want to provide me a rental car. i really dont understand why, i have farmers preferred premium insurance. i didnt chince out on anything with the insurance. i made sure that i didnt cut any corners, hell, even my windows are insured. i dont get why im getting screwed so hard with farmers. i would think paying $230/month for a fourbanger would more than cover rental car experiences, in the event of an accident. im getting kinda angry with farmers, they need to start shaping up or im going to ship out to AAA.

as for the hood, yeah i looked up the price and i dont think im going with the cf hood lol. im going to leave her stock in the hood department for a bit longer because i had a few door dings and such that i needed to get touched up at the shop too. they got me for a pretty penny even after the deductible, due to phantom damage. oh and i found out that i need new tires today too, so the search is on for new rubbers.

I have Progressive and I LOVE them. When I first signed on I was paying $125/month for FULL coverage. Then had a hefty speeding ticket and my accident, also moved which jacked my rate up to $200/month. When I had my accident they gave me a rental car for 5 weeks (loaded Saab 9 3 Turbo at that) and fixed damage unrelated to the accident. About a year and a half later, I noticed a few things that MAY have been related to the accident (fogged headlight, bumper gap, passenger door getting stuck, etc. etc. etc.) and they fixed everything no charge AND gave me another rental for 2 days.

Id get a quote from them if I were you...

The rental car thing, my brother got in an accident hella years ago and I remember them saying something about you have to be at least 25 years old to get a rental or something.... my dad just got the rental and gave it to my brother as soon as he got home.... this was like 8 years ago though so idk if things have changed.

Idk if its the same thing but i was also told that i had to be 25 or older to rent out a car under my name. what i had done was to rent the car under my moms name at enterprise rent a car and it worked out fine. i had allstate insurance back then but i recently switched after i got a dumb ticket for being in the carpool lane alone.

I think its different for every state, but technically to rent the car you must be 25...however you can add a secondary driver to the rental that DOES NOT have to be 25. Basically the liability has to go on a 25 years olds name.

I was in an accident when I was 23, and I was able to get a rental because Geico was paying for it.
