so after a year in japan i get the wonderful news that my fricking power steering pump is going bad...its groaning and whining all the way home from lax as i drive...well i found another one in my trunk from my other ka. well after 5 hours of lets do this now and then the a.d.d. kicking in we finally get the "new"(by new i mean the older one i had in the trunk). well after putting it in and starting the car it sounded like two jedi's fighting with the light sabers under my hood. okay well i dont want power steering that bad so we decided to get rid of it. well thats not just a removal affair, but sortof..on the ka the water pump and ps pump are on the same belt, if you completely remove the water pump how can you ensure tension on the water pump pully, well were geniouses over here so we just pulled the internals out of the water pump. with the removal of the four bolts on the back you can pull the cover off and remove all the pump stuff then put the cover back on...i left all the lines in place and fluid in the system. this is purely experimental but should work. anyone trying to remove the power steering without much hassle could do it this way if they want. if you do it this way make sure you have adequate ps fluid to fill the system because by removing the ps pump internals you create a little tank there.

you should note that pulling all the internals of the water pump will cause your car to overheat.

did you mean to say that you pulled the internals of the power steering pump? I'm sure you could find a belt small enough for just the crank and water pump by themselvs.
