So I did it.
I went drifting with the SilVert. It was actually a lot of fun. Not something I'm going to get into heavily, but something I'd enjoy doing every once in a while. At first, I was pretty lame, but I improved throughout the day. It seemed, however, that just as I would get into my grove, my clutch would overheat and slip really bad. Slipping clutch = no power delivery = no drifting.
After the first couple trips around the course, I came back into the pit and stiffened up the valving. Then it was smooth sailing from then on. I did have trouble with the big sweeper at first since my car is a bit underpowered - I just can't get enough speed to easily break loose and carry through. I figured out though, that I just needed to go as fast as I could, flick the car a bit, and clutch kick it just after entry and I could carry it through pretty well.
Overall, I was pretty impressed with how the vert held up. No major issues other than the clutch getting fried. I did find that my driver-side rear caliper started leaking also. Surprisingly, the 219k+ NA KA held up very well and was good enough to drive home!
Pictures!
This is what I'll call "Turn 2". After coming down the front straight, it's a tight 180. Approach speed is about 10mph, initiate slide with hand brake, counter steer and smash the throttle.
This is the back straight. This is the end of the course where you can try to squeeze in some donuts or a couple side-to-side transfer drifts.
This is what I call "Turn 1". You come onto the track just to the right of the picture and go right into a 360. Mash the throttle and counter steer around the cone so you don't hit the wall.
This is just waiting in line to enter the course off the track. In this picture, I'm just tightening my lap belt.
I'm sorry the pictures aren't that great. The sky was really overcast and my camera sucks unless there's full light. When I find more pictures from other people, I'll add them.
