So i was replacing my head gasket and when it came time to torque the bolt circled in red i had a brain fart and over torqued it. I read the FSM in Newtons by accident and now the bolt is relatively easy to turn. What do you guys think; I need a new head or just need a new bolt????????

I cant really see where it would damage the head. Does that bolt thread into the gear? if so maybe you could just replace the gear and the bolt?

Your heads aluminum, your bolt is steel... So yeah, I seriously doubt that you wrecked the bolt, but rather the head is now damaged. You could see if a shop could fix it... but I dunno... Heli-coil that big on high stress area may not work. But ask the experts at a shop.

But yeah, take out the bolt first so you know what you're dealing with exactly.

Congratulations! You did the same exact thing that happened to me when I replaced my head gasket. I just heli-coiled it, but the thread pitch/size is a really off the wall one. It's going to be hard to find. And I know whenever I found mine it ended up costing around $75, so prepare for it to be expensive.

All things considered though it did fix the problem, and I never had any touble with it coming out or breaking. And it beats having to buy a new head. Although I will say that since that happened, I would be hesitant to swap that head over to any other motor. So once that head is on, don't plan on taking it off without planning on a different head.

Sorry if any of that is hard to read btw. I just woke up, haha.
