So I have been having some troubles getting my car running right lately. So I decided to check my timing and found that it was way off. But what I dont get is how it happen and how will I fix it?

K so everyone knows a little history on this I had to pull my engine to fix a really bad oil pan leak. While it was out I replaced all intake manifold gaskets, Exhuast gaskets, new turbo, 740cc injectors, and a jim wolf tune.

So I recently got it running and It would running like complete crap unless you were giving it full throttle. Some one said check the timing so I did and got this.

I rotated this a number of times and I keep getting the same thing. I dont get how this happen before I pulled the motor it was perfect and now its way off. I didnt even touch the timing untill now. So how do I fix this?

The reason for no replies is because you need to search, this has been covered....

The dots on the cam gears, and the off colored links on the chain do not line up on every rotation, they are just there as a visual aid in proper timing chain installation.

Make sure the cas is properly installed, if you installed the cas with the marks on the crank pully lined up like they are in that pic the timing is way off.

If you don't already have one get a fsm for a sr. If any one knows of a place to host it I have a very good full s15 fsm that is very easy to navigate.

I have search and I have looked at the fsm for an a14sr. I have not installed the cas. The timing was right before and now is off. how many times do I have to rotate it? I swear I have done it like 30 times and still come up with this.

I don't know how many times it takes to get the marks to line up properly, I just know I was doing it for 20-30 min.

Some thing to make it eaiser for you would be to remove the spark plugs, disable the injectors, and bribe a friend with beer to crank it over while you watch the chain and gears.

Well it is possible that the thing could have jump timing, if this is the case the only thing you can do is to go into the motor and set the timing to where it should be.(provided the pistons and valves didn't get into a fight)

Ok I got it right now. Thanks guys. I reset the tensioner as FAST-DATSUN said and it lined right up.

Now Im trying to set the CAS as frsports says too. I did as they do but the cas is all the way forward, not in the middle as they said it should be. Do I rotate the cas another turn?

When setting the timing with the light, do I have to unplug the tps?
