so i test-drove an RX-8

i walked into th dealership while my mom's car was getting an oil change, and started looking at the sports model RX_8 they had. it was really nice, all th options, sexy little car, although the engine has that plastic thing over it i started talking to the guy and he of course wanted to sell me one but i said no way (like i can afford one) but he agreed to let me drive it anyways, so im sharing my experiance:

it was a base model 4-spd auto, they didnt have any 6spds for my enjoyment, the car is small inside, but comfy, not cramped at all, back seat is actually big, comapred to my 240sx, and the dash and all look really cool with the ovals and circles and all, plus digital gauges and all, it has a paddle-style shifters on both sides of the wheel, but you use your 4 big fingers to upshift and the thumb to downshift, the visibility is good for a small car and all, and even the 190hp one moves nicely. its smooth and really quiet too, up until about 3500 rpm when you get this nice note from the engine, and im assuming it only gets better (guy didnt want me to go faster, and it was mid day, so...) all in all, fun car, but i say, give it turbos like the rx-7 and its gonna rock

right on, but i would rather dump my money into my 240 rather then buy a new car, because for the price of the new RX8 u cound have one bad azz 240 (with all new parts basicly)

i thought the RX8 was just a test model. if it did well they were going to come out with a new rx7 (Fe?) oh well, i'll take one, but with two turbos please.

i dont remember where i heard it, or maybe i read it. all i know is that i heard from somewhere that the rx8 was just a test model and if it did well, they'd bring back the rx7. i dont think it was true because why would they step back a number. they've been going foward for all those years, if they made a newer model, it woud either be a new rx8 or an rx9.

I've heard a similar rumor as well.

If true, I hope they make the new one a tad bit bigger than the previous, too damn cramped for us Gaijin:(

Actually Megaseth is right, I have read in a Car and Driver magazine that Mazda plans on remaking the RX-7. I'll try to find it. If I do, I'll let ya'll know what it says.

Oh, and doesn't the base model RX-8 only rev to like 7500 or something because of the torque converter? I thought I heard the automatic had more low-end torque and less horsepower at the end of the powerband with a redline at like 7 something. Is that true?

hey thats right, i read it in a C&D at school. i remember cause my GF was in there with me talking to her stupid friend and i had to do something to pass the time. that would have been like a march edition i think or february.
