in my S13 fastback. How do I get vacuum lines through the firewall?

Have any of you guys mounted your boost gauge without sacrificing your air vents? Ideas please!

Thanks in advance!

there should be a hole down by the pedels, you sould see it on the firewall in the engine by right next to the strut tower. my gauge is mounted next to my pillar for easy viewability

Buy an a-pillar mount or you can custom fab something for the extra DIN slot under your radio. If you mount it on the pillar, try to hide the tube as best as you can and there should be a grommet in the firewall by your pedals for the hood release. this is where a friend becomes handy. have one of you stand by the engine bay and the other feed the tube into the grommet. pull the tube ALL the way through. Get a piece of vacuum hosing and fit it over the gauge's tube's end and then splice a T-connector into the wastegate's signal line. The step hosing on the gauge tube is there so you can use a decent sized t-connector.

btw, solaris. did you get an a-pillar pod for your 180? I had to grind a 240 pod down to fit my a-pillar. the convertables' a-pillar is the same as a JDM silvia/180 since it doesn't have the auto-belts.

I'm sure he had to since he is located on the other side of the car ;)

yeah, the pillar dual pods make for a nice clean install and for gauges like boost and exaust temp it's within your field of vision for a quick glance while driving. They sell for around $50-$60

there's a guy on ebay selling 52mm gauge pods for the steering for the 240 if that's your thing.

i mounted my boost/pyro gauges on the column in front of the stock cluster. with the way they sit you still see the needles of the speedo/tach just not the center parts.

Yeah, I can't drive with the gauge cluster obstructed. I'm still debating where to mount my boost gauge.

nothing is actually obstructed in mine. i can see the needles/digits on the meters no problem. the only things that are blocked are the centers of the tach/speedo which are worthless to see anyhow.;)

Yeah, just a pet peave of mine... I can't have anything distracting me, that includes gauges in the middle of the gauge cluster.

Hey thanks guys.

Right now I will probably mount my boost gauge on top of the steering column since I want to see what's going on while I'm driving.

But, what parts do I need to do this? My autometer boost gauge has two threaded metal pieces sticking from the back.

you can get a gauge holder, just a round ring with a mounting bracket and drill it into your steering trim. Just take those metal things out, I think they can be removed...not to fimilar with the autometer gauges.

I believe Autometer makes a small cup mount that you can put on the top of the column.

Here's a possible solution...

Blitz multi stand - $15 at SPL Parts

Simply put, it's a fancy suction-cup.

Thanks again guys.

Okay I changed my mind about the steering column mount...I got the chills thinking about a police officer poking his head inside my window, and asking me "what's that?". >_< *cringes*

I'm in California, and cops here really stink.

So now, I'm going to go for a do it yourself homedepot DIN mount. I have no idea where to start.

posting a new thread =P

actually, there should be a small bracket with two holes in it. What you do is feed the gauge into whatever hole it's going in, the bracket slides over the two bolts on the gauge (with what I'm gonna call the tabel legs pointing towards the front of the gauge) and then you thread the included nuts onto the bolts and tighten. That holds the gauge flush to your mounting location

same here. that's the big reason why i mounted my pods on the pillar. I drove a Ford Tempo (read that as money sucking POS) for three years, and I like all of my dash to be open and visible just in case. Warning lights have saved my butt quite a few times.
