yeah...co worker apperantly has a family member with one in storage at there house that hasnt seen the light of day in over 5 yrs...

so... im really considering...pulling the CA out of the track car and into the 510...sell my DD coupe and DD/track my CA all day...since i wont have to worry about smog...

i already searched around and found the Mckinney crossmembers, plus other Ausie site that have there own that include modded swaybar...

the only things id need to do iswiringFMIC pippingbuy radiatorExaust manifold (due to oem hitting steering box)fuel cell (to avoid fireball death)

and id be good to go...

I actually have a spare KA out of a 98 i kept from a part out i did that i could ITB...but a loud as f*** ITB is not bueno in a neighborhood of white old people...

any thoughts...

pics to come once i actually go take a look at it...

i just dont see any real downers for it...lighter chassis, less wasted power, awesome classic...i dunno...

its been something ive been considering for a while now...

not having to smog it is a BIG plus imo.

I personally want a 240z with a RB for those 3 good reasons you just mentioned

What's smog? Jk. Guess I forget how awesome it is to live in hicksville and not have to worry about that kind of stuff.

I have a Datsun 510 here in Australia with a CA18DET conversion. Car weighs 1100kg with me in it and a full tank of fuel. The CA is currently pumping out 185kw at the wheels. It bloody quick and it will munch many cars on the road and the track. Some pics just to help you make up your mind

In race trimIn street trim

Buy it. It's an easy conversion.

Brad, if you run across an extra front corner marker (the pointed one), I'd like to buy it off you!

No-brainer to me if the chassis is in good shape. Do some research. Find out where they rust at (floor pans and rocker panels IIRC) and any other common problems they might have. If it all checks out, I'd say go for it.

i might just do that...assuming its in great condition as im told it is...i might just do it...

it all depends on the car...if not, i might just consider findign a wagon...

i already started saving pages on my comps desktops of parts and OEM parts to do a clean OE restore job...

i just need people who know this car to help me out on the swap and info...which im still tryin tot find forums for it...

Please do not think twice about this, just do it. I really , really regret selling my 510. Lightweight, blast to drive, FUN car. I have thought about trying to pick up another one to do a CA conversion.

Check out these guyshttp://www.maddat.com.au/1600.php

I think they had a supplier in the US to work through, I just cannot remember who it was.

Michael Spreadbury was the US distributor. Long time datto devotee.I met him at the All Datsun meet in Shasta 1999.

But the guys at Maddat are good to work with. I use their steering box brace and coilover kit with adjustable camber tops on my 1200.

In Australia too it's better to tinker with pre-1973 cars due to pollution and relaxed safety standards.

I used the Maddat kit. Everything droped in nice and easy. There is way too much info to give you on a forum. I have a post running here of the conversion.http://www.ozdat.com/forum/vie...t=135

The pages before shed a bit of info on the restoration and L series and L18 EFI setup.

This link is for Ozdat forum index. http://www.ozdat.com/forum/index.phpMake sure you sign up otherwise you will not be able to see everything. You will find all the info you'd ever need on Ozdat by either searching or putting up a post. We need more Yanks on the site anyway. I'd say buy the car they are getting rarer by the day (over here anyway) Still plenty on parts around for them. They are fast out hadle many modern cars and are f***ing fast. Cheers

Aren't the 68 models front fender lights a different smaller shape to the 70-72?There are 2 sorts (3 counting the american rectangular ones).

Yes 68 and 69 use smaller combo front lights and side markers. The larger side marker items fit with a bit of handy work with a file. My previous datto which was a 68 had the later model side markers fitted.

Correct.

I have a pair of the 69 ones, which are larger and taper evenly at the front.

I need ONE of the 68 lights, which is tapered down only on one side and is smaller.
