My girlfriend wants to drive in the winter too, and something big, so, I’m going to buy a 01 pathfinder, please help.

A co-worker’s uncle is selling his 01 pathfinder Le, haven’t seen the truck yet, but from the photo, seems like good shape, 110k miles, only problem is oil leaking from the oil cooler according his uncle said.

I read as much reviews about those 01 pathfinders as possible, seems 2001 is a bad year for pathfinder, kind of few Significant Problems.

Just want to have a idea how are they, here is the result.

1 all the owners for the 01 have been all replaced their 6 coil pack after they hit on 60-100k miles, seems like “must happen” problem for the 01 pathfinder. Is that true? Or just the owner has bad experience like to put their troubles on the internet? And how can I check those coils?

2 Transmissions. Some of the 01 owners had trouble with their trans. Are those trans that unreliable too?

3 slow window in the winter and bad cd player. Not a big deal for me, but wondering.

Is there anything else I need to worry about? Any suggestion on buying those 01 pathy? Really appreciate if you guys could help.

Leaky oil cooler is an O-ring replacement, no big deal. I haven't had to do thatbecause I have stick, no oil cooler.

I'm coming up on 180K miles and have not had to do the coils.

Problems with the variable camshaft timing are not uncommon.

My stick shift has had no problem (and about 1/3 of miles are towing my boattrailer).

Slow window just needs lube.

My CD player crapped out at about 120K miles. There's a little white plasticpiece inside that breaks and you can find repairs on the internet. I just use a wireless MP3 player now. More tunes, no problems.

I have an '02, so it may not be exactly the same, but I haven't had any problems, other than what I call normal stuff. I have 212,000 Kms. on it. My trans so far is fine. I'm still on my original coils, but changed the plugs out at 150,000K.One thing that will most likely happen is bad 02 sensors. No big deal.Oil leak you mention is an easy fix.CD player is crap. I use an iPod.My windows work fine even in winter, probably because I oil spray my truck every year. This brings me to my main point for replying: rust problems.Your sig says you're in Winnipeg, right? These trucks are prone to rusting in winter climates. They don't like salted roads. Before buying it, have it thoroughly checked underneath, etc, for rust.If it's already started, either look elsewhere, or have it sprayed (to slow down the rusting).Good luck.

Thanks for the response guys, I am going to check that truck out tomorrow.

For buzzman, this car was from US, spend 100k miles in California, so rust free, looks beautiful.

any more advice on those 01?
