From a fellow Nico member. It is a bit rusty so I was wondering if I could use a copper or a wool brush to clean the cylinders. Also, how much should I bore it out? I'm gonna be boosting it and rebuilding it once I start making some money. Here are some pics:

All suggestions are accepted.

Just take it to a machine shop to get an acid bath. Do it right the first time.

Good idea. Then I gotta figure how much I should bore it out.

Why bore it out? If the walls are in good shape, leave it be.

The guy I'm getting it from suggested I bore it out. I'm getting better pics tomorrow so I'll know if it needs to be bored out or not.

Out of curiousity how much do you think an acid bath would cost? i have a spare block around my house and it looks just like the OP's...

Not much.. maybe $30 or something? I got my block hot tanked, decked, bored over .5mm, new freeze plugs etc for like $165 total. Call a machine shop, or napa. they do machining here for pretty cheap.

is it really that cheap? holy s*** i need to get that l26 out of my z.

gir, unless you're going to build that block for boost, don't bother boring it out. it would be a waste of money for bigger pistons.

Yeah, it don't see why it would be more. it takes no effort haha. I mean, i thought it was going to cost a s*** load.. I got my rods/pistons weight matched, crank/flywheel/crank pulley balanced, crank polished, all that fun stuff aswell.. It was $325 total I believe for all the block stuff, and the above. Might be more other places though.

"don't bore it out"

What a waste of information here. There is a reason he is guying a stripped bare block. It has also been sitting in the elements for some time as we can clearly see.

1 - Don't do anything until you have a crank, bearing, and main caps, and pistons (rebuild pistons that require BORING, just a standard .XXX over piston set).

2- Take to machine shop as well as you head, have them clean, magnaflux, deck, bored, posish crank and bearings, set main caps. Also have them clean, pressure test, and possibly mill the head.

3- Enjoy a NEW motor, its the only shot your gonna have the motor torn down that far, don't be cheap and do it right the first time.

Suggestion, if you can afford it, get forged pistons and rods. Even at stock compression, because if you do decide to boost, they will be security bonus.

I agree. If you do it now without haveing what you need to put it back together, you will encounter the same thing again.

Yeah I'm definitely going boost so I'm definitely gonna get it bored out. I'll definitely take PAHCs idea and just wait to get it bored and everything until I have all the parts. Although I might just get the acid wash first...then get the parts and do everything else.

Dont even bother, wait till you have all the parts, then take it to the machine shop. They should be able to bore and build it for 900-1200. Built the right way, engines are forgiving, but if you have the means to do it right DO IT lol
